Could I mount a BMW Vario topcase and then install either the BMW sidecases (aluminum ones) or the the Zego Pros and not have a problem? I like the idea of being able to put my helmet in the Vario case expanded if need be, but I want to get toploading sidecases soon as well.

Nothing stopping you from doing that. The top and side brackets are completely independent.

If anyone is interested in putting a Givi Monolock (not Monokey) topbox on their 650/800, I have a baseplate for sale.

The touratech rack has everything it needs for perfect fit. I bought it especially for my F800GS, so it had the proper screws etc.

The universal Givi mounting kit can be placed in every rack and can hold pretty much. I have used the top box for long hours on stony or muddy dirt roads while riding 2up with the wife. It takes everything like a pro. I still have the same mounting kit + the top box and I am 100% satisfied. Still dust and water proof, still nice looking, still roomy. Money well spent if you ask me.:deal

Quite happy with my BMW vario case & mount ... converting them both to work with R1200GS-water.

Thanks for the wealth of information provided on this site.

I am just searching for a waterproof, solid, not so big top case to be mounted on my SW-Motech Alu Rack which is fixed to my Honda VFR. I am intrigued by the BMW Vario Box, but did not find an idea, how to mount this one on my rack. Neither BMW nor SW-Motech have advice on that.

Does anyone have experience with that combination or can give some advice? Would be highly appreciated.

    Many thanks.

    Regards
    Markus

Hey Loutre, I gotta job for you here...:deal

Markus, you'd best get a Vario rack from either a R1200GS or the F650/700/800GS . Those two versions will accept either topcase also as in 1200 rack with 800 topcase or whatever combo. That way you can use the quick release locking function. With the 800 rack, you can remove the metal backing plate to mount it slimmer or weld to it as required.

Soon as Loutre beats some GPS coords out of you we can see who's around to maybe help out.

I have a F800GS '14 equipped with the OEM side vario luggages rack system.
Has anyone tried successfully to install this rack?

In SW-Motech's website is stated that is "Not in combination with OEM BMW Side Carrier" but after looking over net, I can see some photos (not so clear though) with such combination.

Any comment is welcome! Thank you!

I cannot answer your question but I can offer you the installation instructions that may help you figure it out: http://static.twisted-throttle.net/media/files/gpt_07_558_20000_b.pdf

What may also shed some light on the issue might also be the instructions for the SW-MOTECH side carriers: http://files.twistedthrottle.com.s3.amazonaws.com/Installation%20Instructions/SW-Motech/KFT/kft_07_559_20002_b.pdf

I am now subscribed to this thread and will try to pay attention. If you want more support please call us at 855-255-5550 we will be happy to look into it further for you.

I think I'm about to pull the trigger on the Givi Trekker Outback.... 58L top case. I looked at Micatech as well, but since a top case is the only luggage I prefer to keep permanently attached, I just figured go big. Be nice to be able to stop somewhere and be able to put helmet, jacket, gloves and even rain pants/overboots in one case. Also be nice to store both mine and wife's helmet when she's on the back.

I have a GSA, which has a fatter butt though. Measurement wise, I think the 21" wide case is almost identical to the tank width. I've seen it on a Tenere and it didn't look silly, so why not :D

    Thanks for the links Kevin!

It took me some time but I figured out the following:

The PDF you provided is for the item with article number: GPT.07.558.20000

The item that I am interested is the one here, with article number:
GPT.07.558.20002 (note the difference in the end "2" instead of "0")
    http://shop.sw-motech.com/en/4052572022764,i1.htm

According to the PDF you gave, the rack can be mounted with the BMW's side carriers.

According to this PDF (2nd item, the one I am interested) it is not managable such combination
    http://shop.sw-motech.com/cosmoshop/artikelpdf/gpt_07_558_20002_b.pdf

The difference are the spacers. Different heights.

By the way, the article GPT.07.558.20000 doesn't appear on SW-Motech's website. Might be obsolete?
