Why don’t the Fairfax County MC Cops ride those HD’s with the headlights on? I always see them on Fairfax county Parkway between 123 & the toll road but they never have their headlights on. Given that they wear grey & blue it seems they are unnecessarily putting themselves at risk for an accident by not making themselves more visible. I pitty the poor cop & the SOB who pulls out in front of one because he didn’t see him.
    Anbody know one?

Know a FFX. Sherrif. Asked him - he rides R1150 RT - and he doesn't know. Figured it's some special police "sneak up on them" thing.

I also asked why they ride side by side - seen that one myself. His response was "cause their fucktards".

I noticed the side by side thing also, I figured they liked looking at each other on those big HD's

Is it a law in VA that bikes have headlights on at all times?

Yah - he's a good guy. Will call an idiot cop and idiot cop as fast as he'll defend a cop doing what he must.

All in all, a very fair, sensible guy. The type of person you WANT to be a cop.

Actually - there is a FFX or State M/C cop in my hood. I'll have to ask him. Either way, will be interesting to see what the response is. They both wear blue/gray so I can't tell which it is.

He sees bikes in the garage and we just wave at one another as he comes home from work.

If you read above "if all the following conditions are met: "

    and

"No person shall operate motorcycles without such equipment on the public highways of the Commonwealth other than at the times and under the circumstances set forth in this section."

I remember asking one of them why they wear practically no gear (half helmets, no gloves, no jacket, etc). The response was "We are trained so that we know how to fall in a crash."

Pretty much blew any credibility I had given the guy. As many accidents as they see, you think they would know better. Maybe it's a macho thing.

Yep, this is the reason we can't lane split.

Which is really stupid. If there is anyplace other than LA where you should be able to split, it's the freakin traffic around the DC area. While it isn't technically the worst in the country, it just seems more aggrevating than most.

    Spagie,

That's due to the high quotient of fucktards we got in the DC metro area.

Nope, only in NC - headlight does not have to be on during the day here. And in NC, you don't have to have your light on, you just have to burn it :scratch :lol3

The side by side thing is a county policy - they think it makes them look good, somebody saw Chips and they liked it - PS - it's an automatic RECKLESS DRIVING ticket for us non-cops in Va.

My brother in law was a County motor cop - retired many moons ago and thinks the new regime are a bunch of young and stu - ah never mind - Hell, their Major died in a crash on a training run out near Front Royal a couple years ago.

I used to bug them about ATGATT. Answer - "Appearance and PR, gotta look good - they are afraid they will look like storm troopers in a 'stitch (even though they do wear "jack boots"). I also asked about the openface BS helmet - they said the helmet and glasses are so you can see their face - like they are normal people or something - they sacrifice themselves for the look.

They are a riding bunch, and when the my father in law died (he was a biker and ex cop) they gave us an eight bike escort all the way down to Westmorland Cty.

All that being said, they are damn good riders, I went to the police motorcycle rodeo with the brother in law once and they are excellent at both high and low speed stuff (happily sacrificing our tax money to buy clutches). They train constantly and ride all year round - they are very busy in Fairfax with all the VIP's/politico's that live in the county and most of them are pretty cool - when spacewife you to ride to work on the parkway, they would always wave from where they ran radar.

True - even if we could lane split, I don't know if I would even try it around here - I've seen some pretty wierd shit.
