Decided to detour through the gorges on the way home, big mistake, the mud was slippery and thick. Got through without dropping the Pig, had some hairy moments though.

Thanks for organising it Beetle, and thanks to all the inmates and others that turned up to support Guide Dogs, see you there next year.

We tried to get there but had a bit of a mis-adventure on the way. Got to Hawker and decided to look for a spot to camp so went down a dirt road that looked promising. It got a bit sticky so decided to turn round. By the time I had it turned round the front wheel had locked up with the sticky red clay. Mrs got the job of cleaning it out while I took the pics.
    DSC_0002.JPG

On the way out the wheel locked again and down we went. The bike landed on my foot and I was trapped under it. Sorry no pics. After a bit of maneuvering I was free and then it was the task of righting the bike. So bags off and all hands on deck and up it came. My knee was a bit sore so we decided to go back to Hawker for the night and see what it was like in the morning.

Not a stick in sight so Mrs had to go get the one she used to dig out the mud last time. Easier to dig out while it was on its side. DSC_0004.JPG

Camp set up at Hawker Caravan Park.

Some nice scenery on the way home.

We will give it another try next year.

Pic above taken in Hawker Friday night.

Claw and I are now at Nundroo. I left Farina midday Sunday to catch up with friends in Quorn.
Claw stayed at Farina Sunday night as he was getting friendly with a woman in a big caravan.
He joined me in Quorn today and we left there at 11:00am SA time.
Between Kimba and Ceduna, massive dust storms. Bloody hell it felt like we were already back in WA !
At one stage visibility dropped to 100 metres.
Massive paddocks, kilometers long with not a single bit of native flora, totally cleared.
    Seems bloody criminal.
We just went head down, bum up.
At the rate we are going we’ll be back in Perth Wednesday night.
But the poor old Wee-Strom only got around 16.5 K/L at the speed we were doing into the wind.
Good to catch up with everyone, even though McGargle forgot the diode board I was picking up for Bear !
    Thanks Beetle. :thumb

Looks like you had breakfast at the Quongdong Cafe, @Eaglebeak . I was in the parking bay across the road just two weeks ago. (Next weekend after 5B's).

    Quorn. Quandong cafe, well spotted.

There used to be an interesting, attractive woman, of Afghan descent, ran a cafe just up from Quandong cafe. Great food, good service, she had pics of her Grandparents with an outfit in the cafe.
Grandma sitting on a Kero tin while Grandad fixes a broken chain.
She was against the proposal to use the Flinders as a Nuclear waste dump.
(No Nuc dump signs everywhere around there)
She ran some fundraisers at the cafe. She was pretty active.
The “Yes” supporters made life hard for her and she eventually left town. (Her home town no less)
I got that story last night from the caravan park leasees.

So near, yet so far. Heading to Farina on Saturday, front tire went flat at Leigh Creek. Fixed it, well thought i did. 10k's out of Lyndhurst it went flat again. I had run out of repair options at that stage, so I rode very very slowly in to Lyndhurst. With the help of my trusty sidekick Mal and a truck driver that had the bit I needed. I got the wheel off and fixed it again. Properly this time !!! However it was about 5 o'clock by this time, and the lights of the Lyndhurst Hotel glistened seductively in the darkness. So after a quick conference we decided to just stay there and drink beer and talk shit. It was good to catch up with you and your WA mates at the Hawker Pub on Friday Beet. Sorry we didn't make it. Next time. 1500k trip home was uneventful No flats. :clap

It wasn't her "hometown" though she is indeed from the Flinders/Marree/Pt Augusta region.
She moved interstate when her partner got a different job with his railway employer (after they closed their Adel-Perth route) - no-one ran anyone out of anywhere!!
I'm not aware of any ' "Yes" supporters ' making ANY noise in Quorn, and that's where I live. Hawker's a little different.

Think that comment more opportunistically reflects the position of the Caravan Park operators than any actual situation.
