Johnson's in Siler City. Best cheeseburger I've ever had. But get there early cause when he runs out, he closes.

If you ever find yourself near Lansing, NC (Ashe county) you have to try the pizza restaurant called "Pie On The Mountain". Hand made pizza & pasta as good as the twisty back roads in the area and very reasonable prices.

For those saying they like Penguin's, How long have you been going there?

I first ate there in 2004 and it was amazing til 2008 then it has been on the slow decline. I won't eat there anymore. It used to be a place to hang out, relax and enjoy the great food. But now it's sit, shove it in your mouth and get pushed out the door.

:y0!The Hotdog King in downtown Greenville, SC is great. As the name implies, the hotdogs are great, but they also have brats, burgers, hot sandwiches......
Fridays @ lunch is Soul Food Friday with a different meal each week. My favorite is fried porkchop w/ gravy over rice with collards!:D

Gotta come to Cherryville, NC for the famous Lotta-Burger!! They are awesome!!! You can get them @ Pat's, The Shake Shop, Black's Grill ~ just to name a few places!!

Oh yeah, we also have Home Folks Cafe ~ great home cooked meals... right in downtown Cherryville.

If you like seafood, try Captain Will's Seafood... open TH, F, Sa, and for brunch on Sunday.

    Ya'll come see us sometime!!

So many favorite places, so I'll just list the ones I stop by no matter when I'm coming through.

    Van Loi II-Vietnamese in Greensboro
-everything is pretty on point, but roast meats, cold salads and whatever is on special

    Saigon Bakery-Vietnamese Bakery in Greensboro
-there's about 10 menu items and 3 or 4 specials, all served on phenomenal in house baked bread with all the fixins

Saxapahaw General Store-tiny village southwest of Carborro
-go here for anything, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Always some cool specials and everything is reasonably priced for such hyper local food.

    Udupi-Vegetarian South Indian in Cary
-although their dinner menu is solid and has a better selection of breads and dosas, the 8.95 weekday buffet is where its at.

    Cypress Grill-Jameseville(ish?)Fried fish shack
-best fried fish place in eastern nc as far as I'm concerned. Only open from January-April, eat literally beside the Roanoke river. Sides and pies are on point, and the fish actually tastes of fish.

    Clyde Coopers-Raleigh
-this place is the real deal, smoked meat or not. Pork cracklings, charming old waitresses and proper southern sides make this place great.

    Random Taco Joints-anywhere, NC
-for when fast food and shitty mom and pop places just won't do. With all the migrant workers, there's pretty much one in every town. Best of all, most everything is made from scratch and actually tastes like something! My favorite is El Milagro in Elkin. I've not found a better taco while living in the abundant triangle.

Just south of Greensboro off 421 is 4 Winds Cafe, has a Climax address and is on Old Liberty Road. Decent little place with surprisingly good food, chef retired to a local horse farm and got bored.

Lots of nice backroads in the region, I can ride for several hours with only 1 or 2 traffic lights.

Sounds interesting and it is close by. Their site says it is at 5924 Liberty Rd Climax, NC. Old Liberty Road is Hwy 49A that runs between Liberty, NC and Asheboro, NC it is a fun road to ride on two wheels. Lots of curves but slow posted speed limits.

Had lunch there today, and as you can guess the dogs are the best. The hole family works there. The parents are in their 30's, and the kids work there tending to tables, taking orders, and everything else! As far as a close, beautiful family, this it it. I can't say enough about the service and wounderful family hospitatility. The kids are so cute as they go about the restuarant asking if they can help. If your in downtown Greenville, you should really stop by.:clap
