One last photo from the LCV stop: These fellers had hiked out to get a closer look at the viaduct, and were taking photos of each other in the process. Doug offered to take a pic of the three of them with their camera, and while he did so, I grabbed a couple pix with mine.

When we were done I offered to e-mail them an image, and gave the feller on the right my e-mail addy. I've not yet heard from them, and, to be honest, their English wasn't so good and I'm not entirely sure they understood what I was saying (which, as it turns out, is the case with almost everyone I talk to...).

Anyway, great portrait, and I hope to hear from them. Happy trails, amigos.

So I show up in my Brother's neck of the woods to take delivery of my new (to me) Harley Road King. My first challenge was figuring out how to lift my foot off the ground long enough to get the creature into gear....without the bike tipping over. A challenge that I quickly mastered, if for no other reason than to eliminate personal embarrassment and to promote self preservation. 800 pounds of FHLR resting securely on top of my shifting leg simply didn't sound appealing to me.

Fast Ferris, while a great younger brother, is also a great M/C coach and teacher. Just follow me and do what I do he says. Now there's a twist to the "grow up" years when I was the one in the lead, the big bro, the "do what I do dude" so to speak.

Hit the Parkway we did, ride we did, lean we did, although I didn't succumb to "sharpening the boards" since I didn't want to scratch the new 800 pound machine that I had stewardship over.

Great hosts my brother and S.I.L. Denise. I told them that I may not leave if they continued with the platinum level service, so they ramped it down an octave or two out of fear that I was serious. :-)

A wonderful adventure to say the least. I'm now back in Washington State, sitting at work making occasional motorcycle sounds, and looking forward to the next visit to my Bro and Denise.....and BRP installment. May the seasoning continue.

    Indeed. :)

You did a great job of knocking the n00b off, Doc. Great times. Looking forward to the next installment. :)

My daughter Brynn is visiting for two weeks from California. She and I have always been best friends, and it's great to see her again, especially for this extended visit.

She and I have logged a zillion miles on motorcycles before, mostly on my '96 Buell S2 Thunderbolt, but it has been FOREVER since we've ridden together.

We made up for some lost time this past Saturday by ducking out and taking a quick spin up to Mabry Mill on the Parkway. The restaurant, gift shop and mill were shuttered (thanks, Mr. President), but the grounds weren't Barrycaded and we (and many others) enjoyed visiting OUR park.

It was an awesome ride with my daughter, friend, and mom to my two handsome grandsons. :)

We stopped at Groundhog Mountain (mile marker 188.8) to photo-document the park closure:

Someone had added a heartfelt political comment to the "federal government shutdown" sign:

Some folks pulled up on a Can-Am Spyder while we were stopped. The pilot looked at the shutdown sign, looked at me, and said, "Damned politicians!"

    I replied, "One politician."

The four of us proceeded to have a lively discussion on politics. Our new friends Bill and Rita are conservatives, like me, and had nothing good to say about the present administration in the White House. Bill (a veteran, as it turned out - thank you for your service, sir) seemed very well informed on current affairs, and it was interesting to hear all the parallels between his political viewpoints and mine.

I asked if I might take their portrait. "Sure!" I showed them the subsequent image on my camera, to which Bill said, "Now then, please e-mail that to 0bama and tell him he can kiss my ass."

    Amen, brother.

Here's some extra-credit material for anyone so inclined, an excellent civics "primer" penned by an outspoken political conservative:

One wonders how our president can be so consistently un-American in his behavior and policies. I can only assume it's deliberate.

I'll say this: He's not MY president.

Nice to see you getting some Daddy/Daughter time. She picked the right time of year for a visit.

Tman! Always great to hear from you. :)

Yeah, I'm amped to have Brynn out here for a couple of weeks, and agree on the timing: Our colors are peaking now.

I'll post up some "archival" m/c pix of Brynn here when I get a chance. Both of my children were infected with motorcycles at an early age. My son is presently in the sandbox, but when he gets back stateside he's scheming and dreaming of finally getting his own bike (Triumph, probably). Finally riding side-by-side with my son, after all these years, would be most awesome. :)

I got out Sunday for a short solo ride, before the rains came:

Here's Brynn in early 2006, outside the Harley-Davidson dealer in Victorville, California. I had just escorted Madduck and his FBRAT Buell Ulysses to the Nevada state line (he was riding home to Minnesota), and swung through Victorville on my way home to visit Brynn before she headed off to w*rk.

We did some slow two-up laps in their parking lot that day. Prior to this past Saturday, it's the only time Brynn has ever ridden with me on the Road King.

    Good stuff. :)
