Scrubs, What does she do for a living?

If the weather holds, I'll be heading to DC on Friday for my 30th high school reunion. I plan on taking the Parkway to Afton Mountain then who knows after that. Time permitting I'll try do a RR as the colors should be about there. I just need to decide, scooter or bike? Hopefully I don't wreck the ride home Sunday with to much of this :freaky

At the time she was an RDA; for the past several years she's been a full-time homemaker and mom of my two gorgeous grandsons. :)

30-year high school reunion? YOU?!? Heck, you barely look 30!! :D

Re: the RR, if you DON'T crank one out when you get back, well, I'll never talk to you again. ;)

    Have fun, be safe!!

Here's a shot of Brynn and my Buell Thunderbolt taken in December of 1997:

You can imagine how happy I am to report that the private concession operated campground in Prince William Forest Park which i planned on staying at 2 nights is closed due to the shut down. So much for doing my trip on the cheap.

    Beautiful daughter and bike.

Those Thunderbolts are the nicest looking bikes Buell made IMO. If I was a more proficient wrencher I wouldn't mind owning one myself.

Yeah, I imagine you're just thrilled to pieces. Dang.

IF we make it to the mid-terms, fingers crossed we retain the House and take back control of the Senate; I love the smell of impeachment in the morning.

Have you kept up on the shutdown crap going on down at Mt. Pisgah Inn?

    Thanks, and thanks. :)

Yep, an instant classic. Mine took a lot of tinkering to keep it consistently on the road, but sure was a hoot to ride in the twisties, and was all-day comfortable when touring.

    I'll own another some day...

I have not but I'll google it and see what I come up with. I feel really bad for the businesses that rely on the fall foliage along the parkway to make their bottom line for the year. Kind of like closing the beach in the summer. Stinks that our system is so broken that our elected officials need to create then use a disgruntled populace as their motivation to negotiate.

Please don't use google; it is not your friend, IMO. Better to use Startpage as your search engine. Here's a link to who they are, and how they protect your privacy: https://startpage.com/eng/aboutstartpage/

I see no hint of negotiation. What I see (and hear) are dictatorial demands. Odd (read: unacceptable) behavior in a "constitutional republic."

Yeah, I caught up on your thread last night too. Good to see Brynn visiting. I know how hard it is to have your kids thousands of miles away. Great to hear Wade still has a ride in his sights. I'm picturing you, Dr. Doug and Wade on a road trip... let's just say we'd want to hide the wimmins and children! :lol3

    Be a'skeered. Be VERY a'skeered. :D

There are still a few pix from Dr. Doug's RKADV Ride I didn't get around to posting up yet. On Sunday we left Blowing Rock and did a giant lap around the entire perimeter of Grandfather Mountain. The conditions were perfect - clear, crisp air, and clean (well, mostly...), dry roads.

So we're climbing out of Valle Crucis on 194 towards Banner Elk. You've ridden this road before; you know how very, very sweet it is. Me 'n D are on point, Dr. Doug is doing what we do, which is mostly just taking it easy and taking it all in. It. Was. Sublime.

Whoosh! We meet a sport bike rider headin' the other way, on a bend, on the boil. First I see the bike, haulin' mail, nice line, nice lean, then I see the wave as I wave, but at the last moment the hand gets extra-HUGE, then I see a quick, nearly subliminal flash of Barricade Orange. Poof, gone!

I process the info. It's a Uly, at speed.

    It's Carlost!!!!!! :clap

There was a decent wide spot to our left, so I idled us over 'cause I knew Carlost would hang a UE and hunt us down like the dogs we are. He was on us in about eight seconds. :D

We had a great, impromptu visit there in the glorious mountains, then all of us had to roll, to continue to hit our marks for the day.

Great to see you yet again this weekend, amigo! :freaky

Concur 100%. Dr. Sowell has a way with words, and makes it easy for even a troglodyte like me to understand what's really going on in regards to the senseless federal government "shutdown."

Here's a link to more of Dr. Sowell's writings. He's consistently excellent.

Is that the same cabin where we first met Scott Graham?

    Indeed it is. :)

I told Dr. Doug the story (Denise has heard it before) of our brief visit with him that morning, and how careful we were not to get in his shot, or walk across the wet grass and leave footprints that would ruin his photograph.

I've gifted quite a few folks Scott's photography over the years, all on account of our chance meeting with him that cool, misty morning at Jesse Brown's cabin.

Thanks for the great memories, brother. :)

The images and following text are from mine and JB2's visit to Jesse Brown's cabin and the Cool Springs Baptist Church, from September 15th, 2004, on the morning we met photograper Scott Graham:

when we first pulled up to Cool Springs Church, we were the only vehicles save for a modest Subaru station wagon.

the owner of the station wagon, then, must be the fellow we saw in the field, with a camera on a tripod. always intrigued by photography - and photographers - i made it a point to discretely walk past the car and peek in the windows.

the car was crammed with every manner of "saleable" photographic item you can think of, from calendars to post cards to mouse pads.

    cool, the guy's a pro.

we tried to respect his "space", and we were definitely quiet as we wandered around, but it was inevitable that we got in his shot on occasion.

i watched him as i checked out the spring house, looking for clues as to what he was and who he was.

finally, wanting to say SOMETHING (and since HE didn't seem compelled to start a conversation), i apologized to him for being pesky tourists and for getting in the way.

he thought for a moment, and looked up from his camera. "That's okay," he said with a smile, "I make a lot of money from pesky tourists."

i had to chuckle at his honesty. and sense of humor. i asked him what he "did."

"I shoot photos of the Parkway."

i asked him what his name was, then, so that if i happened to see some of his work up the line i'd know it was his.

"Scott Graham," he replied, "and you WILL see lots of my work."

i liked the way he said what he said. not boastful, but certainly not shy.

"I just finished a coffee table book called Blue Ridge Parkway - America's Favorite Journey," he said.

great, i said, i'll keep an eye out for it. we wished him well.

he was right. up the line i DID see lots of examples of his work, and i now have a copy of his book - signed, no less - sitting right next to me as i type these words.

there's nothing in it for me other than the feel good, but a quick search on Amazon would prolly take you right to it - it's a cool piece of work. (and, technically, it's by J. Scott Graham and Elizabeth C. Hunter, just so's ya know.)

    yep, pe$ky touri$t$.
