Players don't realize that hockey doesn't have lucrative TV deals that would help pay the million dollar salaries they think they're worth.
Owners don't realize there's no money to be made (no game) without players. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! Fookin eejets, all of them.

I know many guys that would jump at the chance to play hockey for a job and wouldn't require millions of dollars salary either.

    I dunno Config...

I've seen alot of hockey... from Pee Wees and Bantams to HS, College, Jr. A's, Semi-Pro, ECHL, AHL, WHLII, to the NHL. With the possible exception of some AHL and some European league games... there is a distinct difference between pro and the minors. The performance level is incomparable.

The difference to a Canadian is desire. We all grew up wanting to be those players, and would fight (at least I did) to be the best we could be so that we could move up to better leagues/teams.

The younger guys fight harder for what they are given. The pros are to busy counting their $$ to give a shit about the game.

I'm sad and pissed off at the same time about the lockout and the loss of the entire NHL season. :pissed
Columbus has only one major league team and it happens to be the Blue Jackets, our NHL franchise. If you've never been to an NHL game, you owe it to yourself. It's a game that translates much better in person than on TV ...
So the owners once again want limits on themselves: "Stop me before I spend again!"
But the Players Union has to rate as one of the dumber groups in sports history. They've just shut themselves out of a year's wages. Sure, some of the superstars have a couple mil stuck away for a rainy day. But your fourth line center doesn't pull in quite that kind of money and is now playing in one of the minor leagues for $500 a week. Not only is he being paid a fraction of what he'd normally be making, he's taking the job of a minor league player. So everybody's fucked.
I side with the owners more than the players on this one. The union swore they would never accept a salary cap despite the fact most other major league sports have one. And after all their braying and kicking, they agreed to a cap yesterday ... just too little, too late.
I hope they reach an agreement soon so the 2006 season can be counted on as a sure thing, but knowing these bozos they'll put it off until the 11th hour again and piss everybody off all over again. :bluduh

I pretty much agree with you on that, spacey. I'd like to see all the clutching and grabbing and hooking taken out of the game and the offense opened up again. But I don't think you can say there's a lack of talent in the NHL. Players flow in from all over the world now: Russia, eastern Europe, Scandanavia, the U.S. Of all the sports which have expanded so quickly, I think hockey might be the only one that can support that expansion with its ever-increasing talent base.

Sorry Linz, gotta disagree with you here. All professional sports suck. Everyone from the greedy, sleazeball owners to the juiced, overpaid, prima donna players that charge kids for signatures, to the fucking rip-off city contracts (overpriced parking, expensive and shitty food) to the tv networks... all of em can suck a fucking cock. :boid

Bastards. All of 'em. Hope they all go out of business.

Don't hold back, tell us how you really feel. :evil

I loved hockey as a kid growing up. The Bruins were a great team and hockey wasn't such a commercial monster. I stopped watching every single game when they put all of the home games on a premium cable channel. That sucked.

These guys are all crazy - Taking a sport that doesn't have a huge fan base to begin with and then just killing an entire season just doesn't seem to be a smart move for either side.

I don't miss it....always considered it along the lines of the CFL as a professional sport. I do feel for some of the northern US/Candadian fans though.
