Sorry. I been riding since the mid-seventies when the only riders who wore ATGATT were either racing in the dirt or at a track. When the sport bike crowd adopted the Kenny Roberts apparel, SQUID stood for "Super Quick Until I'm Dead." :muutt

(You see, we noticed the majority of the ATGATT crowd were new riders who simply dressed to emulate their superbike heroes and quite frankly, were clad far above their attained skill level. A lot of them didn't last long.Things haven't changed much...:(:

I like the original meaning a hell of a lot more plus it also makes sense.
Keep your opinion if you'd like. But it doesn't change the fact you're wrong. :turkish

Stupid Quick Undressed Imminently Dead -- how does that not also make sense? :lol3

Well for one thing, SQUID has squat to do with any HD, never has-never will (incredibly quick? undressed? imminently? lol come on, how lame is that crap?) and... your definition is not remotely close to what SQUID was originally intended to describe.:baldy

I never knew Squid was an acronym, or referred to style of dress. I too thought it referred to the similarities to the sea creature's style of acceleration.

It may be different in colder regions, but in California squids rarely wear anything more than tank top, shorts, an flip-flops.

Or this one. Although, he did think ahead to protect the body part that he expects to touch pavement.

The original meaning has been lost to time. Likely it's a backronym.

It hasn't been lost to time. The term has only been around for about 40 years, just usurped in the last few years by new riders.

I told a couple of guys here at work (who have been riding and building HD's as long as myself) and we all got a good laugh out of how the SQUIDS have tried to squirm out from beneath the term of derision.

It was what the old guys called the young guys before "power rangers" came along.

I suspect the OP video rider was a hapless victim of slippery tyres. He didn't appear to accelerate overly fast or do anything stupid.

I do not understand this statement. As a newbie rider, when am I allowed to wear a helmet? What about a leather jacket? I'd hate to look like a poseur. :rolleyes

I'm failing to see what any of this had to do with squids or Harley owners.

    1/10.

I'd give it a 2, but I've already seen that video.

With the word squid, my little cartoon mind always starts up with soft floppy tentacles flipping through the air around a center point, gradually slowing down after bouncing off the pavement many times, until it stops and you realize it was not a squid with 8 tentacles, but a REAL SQUID

Fortunately this guy knows his place and dressed accordingly. When he learns how to ride he'll be granted permission to wear the pirate costume. :D
