Just grabbed the spreadsheet, already plugged in the costs for my Route 66 ride in 2015, and now I have an idea how much to sock away each month & how much we can spend on gear (we have none).

It's working for me - check message #64. From there you can open it full screen by clicking the icon on the lower right and then save to your computer.

    Thanks OP - extremely helpful!

Sorry but i dont really see the point in this. The costs of a trip depend a lot on

    1) the petrol prices of the country (1 Cent per Liter in Venezuela, 2 Dollars per Liter in Turkey)

2)the consum of your bike (125 ccm vs 1200ccm bike)

3)the speed you travel. 1000 miles per day or per month?

4)If you are wild camping or staying in a hotel

5)Do you eat local food or in expensive restaurants

6)Shiping your bike or buying a used bike in the country of destination

7)Visa cost. Many countrys free others 300 US$...

Been a while since I've visited this thread, so now catching up, I posted the Web App edition back in msg #64. Although this wasn't my spreadsheet in the beginning, I can offer a few tips around how to use...

    • How to get a metric edition: just change all labels that use "miles" and switch to "km", swap gallon to lt, then add your bike's specs to the fields. That part is easy.
    • Although I saw requests for metric edition, didn't see any asks for local currency. Just put your own prices in and swap labels as needed. Perhaps it's just the Canadians asking, they have the km/dollar combo...just change the labels and you're good to go, the math part of the spreadsheet will keep up.
    • I found the spreadsheet to be handy in plotting out the financial outlay of a big trip, and supplements the route planning aspect once you figured out where to stay night to night.
As another idea generator, let me share my route planner spreadsheet from my Alaska trip a few years ago in this post, perhaps others will find it handy.

Just came across this spreadsheet for my own TAT planning. Thanks for sharing. I'd love to see one of these that lists mileage and waypoints or something like that. Maybe I'll come across one later on in my reading and planning.

Does this not, defeat the purpose of the trip? A F##%ing spread sheet?

For rich people like you...yeah, probably defeats the desire to go out and ride and just throw it on one of your dozen platinum cards in your wallet. For the rest of us, it comes in handy knowing how much we need to save up to accomplish the same goal. :huh

I agree, and many of us like some small surprises on a trip, such as unexpected roads, meeting people, a new drinking establishment, whatever. Having an idea of cost and not breaking oneself financially is nice to know.

drawing on the experience from others of what a trip may cost may be the difference of giving it a shot or staying home.
