Here is an old mine site. You can see where you entrance used to be right behind the lumber.

I let Bryan do the navigating, he's pretty good at it!

    Hmmm....

Up in the high country there was still a bit of snow here and there. It appears the winter was just over up here.

Forest Service roads and trails are generally well constructed. However, in steep areas there is no room for error. Running off the road in these areas generally means a steep drop and a long plunge.

One of the people on this site that I talked to about the Black Hills was judjonzz, I even ran into him the weekend before this trip. One of the things Jud said was "bring your body amour". After the first day and a half, I thought he kinda over exagerated the rocks. That was until we got on the Centenial trail between Nemo and Pilot Knob.

Like normal, we couldn't stop for the Gnarly spots, so no pics of those.

We took a half a day to ride some twisting pavement and elevation changes as traditional tourists.

If you can't figure it out yet, Bryan and I both take a shit load of pics. Its pretty easy to do and its something alot of people do not do. I figure why the heck not? Digital is free and if you don't take those pics there is a good chance those memories will be gone soon.

    More pics in the morning.

Thanks for your awsome report. I rode through there last year enroute to Laguna Seca. I took an extra day to loop from Badlands to Wounded Knee then up thru the Black Hills and back to camp. I linked maybe 100 miles of graded roads with about 300 miles of pavement. I often wondered what a ride through the woods would be like. After your report I am going to go back see for myself! My fav image of your trip:

I love your dawn at the park scene too:

Great RR and pics guys! I love it down there. It's also the only good riding anywhere close to where I live (about 4 1/2 hours).

Rufus, that is 16A south out of Keystone that has the pigtail bridges and the tunnel would be on Hwy 87, the Needles Highway. Those are 2 of the best paved rides in the Hills.

Western Black Hills, near the Wyoming border. The terrain varies quite a bit out here!
