So my buddy Geddo and I decided it was time for a road trip and figured what better excuse than to check out the 2008 WSBK races at Miller Motorsports Park. I'm not much of a writer, so I'll let the pics do most of the talking and let Geddo chime in when/if he wants (his pictures are better than mine)

Packed up and ready to go

    Then Geddo showed up

We decided to go hwy 120 through Yosemite, it was awesome

We stopped at about 5,000 feet to close the vents on our jackets and bundle up

Good thing, 7,500 feet was pretty chilly

    and then came the summit....

Well, it wasn't much as far as snow goes, but you gotta remember we're California boys... needless to say we made it through and headed to Mammoth Lakes to camp for the night

The roads were awesome, and although we were riding on highways we tried to stick to the road less travelled.

We would go for an hour or more without seeing another car

I'd like to say we rode some dirt as well, but this is as close as I'd get

The Guzzi stayed on solid ground, for now....

    Next up, Lake Mammoth

This was the first use for our new camping gear/tents. Eureka Pinncle Pass for Geddo, and an REI Half-Dome for me.

Both tents were great (for warmer nights) but we soon realized that our also new Marmot 40 bags weren't up to the 30 degree temps to come..they do pack small though, I fit all my camping gear (Tent, Bag, sleeping pad, and pillow) into one Medium Ortlieb bag. Here's a pic of the Half-Dome without the rainfly, can you say ventilation!?!

Realizing that riding was more fun than watching someone else ride, we decided to spend an additional day on the road instead of getting to Miller in time for Saturday's qualifying...so, on to Zion National Park

    Traffic was a bitch

Considering where we were by mid-day, we were happy not to see any "hitchhikers"

Not really having a plan, we figured we'd just get to Zion and find a campsite...not knowing that most were booked up. Ah well, who needs running water? Sandy river banks make great camping spots...

Zion was, of course, beautiful, but it was a shorter ride than I expected.

Heading out of Zion, we ran into these guys. Nice to see there are a few left

From Zion, we headed North to Wendover. Would've liked to stay closer to the track but we made our plans sorta late and the hotels were booked up. Wendover, for for those of you that have been there, is less than the perfect resort destination...

Regardless, we were happy to get cleaned up after roughing it for the last couple of nights. After all, we had a race to go to tomorrow. Geddo has all the pictures of the event, so I hope he chimes in here, but in summary:
80 across the salt flats SUCKS
    Miller Motosports Park is nice
The EVENT itself was lame, almost no vendors, poor manufacturer turnout, horrible announcers... etc. We won't be back.
80 across the salt flats sucks even worse in the evening with high winds and trucks going 90mph.

Back on the road the following day, things got fun again. Nevada is a desolate place, and it's a long way across, but once you get used to the long lonely highways (hint: the Sirius radio helped) it's actually kinda nice..

I think it was in Ely, NV. where we saw this cool mural

We were glad we fueled up before Yosemite, $5.10/gal for regular :eek1
    [IMG]

Yosemite is a small place, you have to get down reeeeal low to see it :rofl
    [IMG]

Lots of snow on those mountains, little did we know we would experience it first hand
    [IMG]

jab gives the snow covered adv salute from 10,000 feet

Eastern side of the Sierras, you can see Mono Lake in the distance. MMMM Mobile Restaurant, we ate here on the road out and back. Why?? I dunno!

We took the scenic route to Mammoth Lakes, this is my first on bike picture. I got pretty comfortable with this and later took a lot of video too. This is the scenic road to June Lake.

We made it to Mammoth just to find out the lake campsites were closed, we camped in town instead. I think jab thought I was going to have second thoughts so he locked up my bike :uhoh

We head out to Benton Crossing road, I attempt to take some rear view reflection pictures but just can't seem to get it right. Forward view good, damn messed up the rearview!

Rearview good but just bramble ahead.

Lots of butterflies on Benton, well there are few hundred less now... they do make for a pretty bug gut pictures tho, lots of yellow, orange and red... purrty
    [IMG]

We head out to the ET highway, someone told jab this was a beautiful road :huh someone needs to buy a clue! We did see one of the locals tho... Look a GREY!!!

    "Take me to your leader!"

Freaky place for all the wrong reasons, biker's check in but they don't check out.

After nearly 500 miles and roughly 10 hours we finally make it to our campsite in Zion Utah. Sand is not an easy place to ride a V11, kept it wheels down tho :evil

Not much to see after Zion, so here are a few Zion pics.

We did take 20 across the moutains which was a nice Twisty-Treat after all the long straight-aways. Good thing there weren't any badges thru there. No pics, was having too much fun riding... sorry.

This is what much of riding thru Nevada looks like if you take the road less travelled. Over the ridge you see moutains about 30-50 miles ahead, a valley running forever on either side, and a long straight road running through it.

We make Wendover after another very long 400+ mile day. What a treat! :lol3 That's the Salt Flats to the right.

OK as previously mentioned, 80 from Wendover to Tooele sux... but 80 from Tooele to Wendover in high winds... :puke1

After over a thousand miles of riding, gravel roads, sand, snow and high winds... I pull into Miller Motorsports Park, back my bike into my parking spot, forget to put out my kickstand and over she goes. Idiot!!! :bash Luckily all I broke was part of my clutch lever which wasn't such a big deal as there was still enough left for 2 finger use. No pics of that thankfully, jab didn't even see it though I felt like everyone else did :kat "I'm sorry is that my ass showing!?!"

Here are some WSBK event pics

Those tiny flecks in the distance are actually highly skilled sportbike riders, it's not a bad pixel honestly.

After serveral minutes they finally ride by, then are gone in a flash... I am pretty sure there is a motor in those things but you wouldn't know it unless you have really good :ear
    [IMG]

Getting a picture of a sea of bikes parked in the lot is a must, but the way they broke up the parking it just doesn't have the same affect.

Notice the T-shirt, we would like to be able to show off our WSBK shirts from the event but finding them was more of a hunt than expected. Once we did locate one small trailer selling event shirts they were all out of X-Large.:confused

We get up and bang out another 500 mile day through Nevada. This is my view for nearly the entire 500 miles
    [IMG]

Could be worse, I could be back at work doing this :cob

Quick stop for gas in Tonopah and a nice fighter pic of the Italian Beauty
    [IMG]

Finally we see the majestic beauty of the Sierras... almost home.

This is coming through 120 just south of Mono Lake, what a fantastic ride!!!

We stop for a bite in Lee Vining at this place, can't eat at Mobil everytime! Good food, but I for one would prefer gold!

We ride to our campsite in Yosemite and I get a nice reflection shot, though not in my rearview mirror. Well I think its cool anyways.

By far the best campsite/place we stayed, this site was beautiful! Stream, mountain, frozen waterfall, large grass field... Tip Top!

Ahhhh, warmth. Another cold night in the Sierras but this time I wore more clothes so I get a good night's rest.

Queue up Simple Man and give me a Busch beer!! :1drink

We are damn tired though we really don't know it yet... still looking forward to the last leg we had forgotten how long it was when we originally came in.

Here we stop at Mobil for breakfast and I show off what a long ride should look like... of course I am now wanted for mass murder but I will get the evidence off once I get home.

We don't take much time stopping for pics coming back through Yosemite so I just snap off pictures as we ride...

We make a wrong turn coming out of Yosemite and end up much further North than we wanted to be so we take 49 back South. What a great ride, for the first few miles I am having a blast. Really using my rear brake and trying to learn to trail brake, but after a while it just doesn't seem to end and I am really getting tired. Finally we reach Mariposa and just as I pull into the gas station I lift my visor and splat, a bug pops me in the eye raising a large welt. Guess payback IS a bitch!

Anyways we met these two blokes from England who really know a good bike. So they shipped theirs over and rode across country on these babes!

This is the last picture I took as I was all out of memory, and honestly, patience to get home. The ride through the hills on 152 was another crappy one, high winds, high speeds, and trucks galore. But we make it home alright all the better for having accomplished this little journey.

Thanks for checking this out, and thanks to all those on here that inspired this little trip :freaky
