So yesterday I got my gps mounted and an outlet wired up for the charger, so I decided today I needed to test it.

I remembered reading about old nc 105 in a thread on here somewhere, it's only an hours ride from my house in Shelby, NC, so off I went!

This is off of 226, about half way there:

So the trip there was pretty boring until I got to Marion and Lake James, the roads around the lake have some pretty nice twistys!

Anyway, I finally made it, and my first impression wasn't a good one, when I left the pavement the road consisted of some very rough bumps, and large loose gravel, it was going to be a horrible ride if that continued, but luckily about a mile in the roads change to mostly dirt with a small about of gravel in patches, here are some pics of the views:

Lots of these great little camping spots all along the road:

So after around 18 miles of twisting dirt and climbs, you reach the other side, I decided to walk the trail there to see the upper view of Linville falls, would have liked to have stayed a bit longer but thunderstorms were rolling in:

The ride on the way back was twice as fun (and probably three times as fast) guess I had a bit more confidence knowing what to expect. I probably went a bit faster than anyone should on top of a mountain:D

Well there you have it, I had a blast. Felt like I really bonded with the XT on this trip, it did an amazing job in the dirt, if only it could handle the highways without straining the engine so much.

It held up great, didn't move or wiggle at all. I attach the bungee you can see in the pic when I go offroad for extra security, but it probably isn't needed. Now the cheap 12v accessory plug broke right as I neared home. Today I replaced it with a better quality one, with a cover to keep water out when it's not being used. It's mounted better too and doesn't just hang.
