    2012 YAMAHA Super Ténéré XT1200Z

I ordered it on yamaha's PDP program Sept. 8th, 2010. It was suppose to be a 8 month wait with deliveries based on order sequence starting May 2010. The earthquake hit in March 2011 and changed all that. I stuck it out unlike some people (who wish now that had stayed the course:lol3). Now the states are loaded with the ones who "woke up this morning and decided I think I am going to buy a Super Ténéré". Not so fast there becasue being a PDP bike the only ones you can actually buy on the dealers floor is a bike that a customer declined to buy (lost his money BTW) or a dealer who shafted yamaha and used his cousin, neice or granny as a buyer. If you do find one be prepared to pay FULL retail there are no bargains. Sellers heaven on this unit right now. Me I ordered early and got a very sweet deal from Got Gear in Ridgeland, Ms. I got my bike earlier than any of the Sept. 1st orders. Mine was one of the 1st stateside to be in a owners possesion.

The bike, it's super sweet in the 120 miles I have had time to ride it in the past week. More miles will come soon. Sitting position is completely natural. Vibration none, torque is everywhere, top end rush not so much, electronic nanny aids, too many IMO but hey everyone can ride it.:D Traction control bothers me the worst not the ABS as I first feared. Suspension is harsh and stiff for a small guy. Seat is okay but too soft for long rides. Accessories from Yamaha are good and fit on the bike.

Latest update, added the Yamaha panniers and skidplate last night.

    Thanks dude!

Have you ordered panniers for the KTM yet? OEM or aftermarket?

I thought about stealing part of your personalized license tag the other day but I was going to use a "T" on the end. I decided to not waste the money on Hinds county in the end:D

    Let's go riding sometime.

Roy If you get the chance I'd love some more detailed pics of the panniers and the mounting system. Are the connections plastic like the BMW system cases or metel?

I've found a couple Teneres within a few hours of me on the showrooms for retail, which isnt a bad price at the moment. I'd be picking one up and selling my GS BUT I have a ride to CO coming up soon and dont want to get in the middle of getting a new bike ready and then not be able to get the panniers or something.

I prefer soft luggage over hard, so I ordered the racks that fit my Wolfman soft luggage that I was using on the KLR. I've got the racks, I just haven't put them on yet.

Aw man, I wish you would have done that! That would be cool.

I am ready to ride! Well sorta. I just ordered all the filters and screens for the first oil change; they should be here next week.

Soft bags are good and I wish I had done that on the DR instead of the HT panniers. I might go bag to that and sell teh HT panniers on down the road.

You mean GG did not have your screens and filter in stock, do what! I picked up my gallon of Yamalube, 1 qt of Yamalube rear drive oil and a Yamaha oil filter all for $36 bucks yesterday.:D All in stock.:D

I kept the same one I had before, which most people outside ADV won't get, but that's probably a good thing

Yes unfortunately the bags are a hard ABS plastic nothing real durable imo. The locks are as crappy as everyone told me they would be. The bags look great however. Not real big. The use of security torx bolts on the rack and on the lock sets really gave me trouble. They are odd sizes and the lock set ones are as soft as butter. If I had to do it over I would have just bit the $$ bullet and bought Tourtech panniers and racks. These are nice don't get me wrong but no where near worth what they are going for. Not sure who makes them for yamaha but if I knew I'd steer clear of their products. The racks are well built steel pieces and hardly noticeable on the bike without bags on. Thats about it if not for the Torx nightmare it would have all went on in about 2 hours as it was I went on my DR650 to buy the required torx only to get a front flat on it and get home to fine out the large torx was not big enough.:eek1 I managed to improvise from that point on and now I have a front flat to fix on my DR this afternoon. 60 lbs of air in the tire got me home but went flat less than 10 minutes after parking it in the shop, wheeeeew.

:bluduh Now you know my four quarts of Motorex and screen/filter kit was way more than that!

I went ahead and ordered two oil change kits so I don't have to wait the next time I change the oil.

Hey Rob, I tried to get the Karoo 2 T for my bike, but they don't make one like yours for the rear. The other Karoo 2 is a 10% on and 90% off tire, so I elected to go with the TKC's instead. Dangit.

Got Gear has been making a lot off us boys here lately. I had to buy my 7th battery tender there saturday.:eek1 The panniers and skid plate was another cha chang $$ so when he told me only $36 for all the oil products and filter I was like hell yea cheapest thing I've bought here in a month.:lol3 I am not using any special oils never have since back in '95 I had a GSXR-750 clutch go to slipping off synthetic. I said then no more high dollar oil. I wil be using old 10w40 straight dino Yamalube in the S10. They should be stocking that KTM stuff if they are going to sell them, just my opinion ya know.

Thanks! I'm trying to wait for cooler weather to take a 2 week vacation, but I'm running out of patience.

It's just their version of the TKC. I wish the Tiger had an 18" rear. Have you had any FI issues?

Supposedly, the TKC's are 60% off and 40% on.

No, I haven't had any FI issues; the bike purrs like a Tige......er......I mean growls like a lion! It really seems to run very smoothly. The only trouble I've had so far is the stupid dust cap on the right tank lid.
