For the last six months or so, I've been lusting after the KTM 990 Adv. Finally a few months ago, I sold my SXV, and then last week I pulled the trigger on the 990. I've been riding it to and from work and since I picked it up, but today was the first day I got to go on a real ride.

I started by heading west on I-70 to see how she handles the open road. I cruised at 75 - 80 the whole way up to Georgetown, and then I pulled out my phone to scope some side roads. I ended up seeing Saxon Mountain Rd. on the map and headed that way.

I stopped about half way up and grabbed a few shots:

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/rtadlock/4872755389/" title="Untitled by rtadlock, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4114/4872755389_044d1e0262_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="" /></a>

It was hot, so I didn't spend much more time taking pictures. I was really getting into the ride, so I didn't take a ton more pictures until I got closer to the summit:

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/rtadlock/4873367692/" title="Untitled by rtadlock, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4094/4873367692_4bdd07a259_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="" /></a>

At the top, I took this pano, and then headed back down:

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/rtadlock/4873388142/" title="Untitled by rtadlock, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4136/4873388142_89b41130c0_b.jpg" width="1024" height="326" alt="" /></a>

After I got do the bottom, it was time to let her drink:

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/rtadlock/4873370042/" title="Untitled by rtadlock, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4102/4873370042_d45901960d_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="" /></a>

After I gassed up, I jumped back on I-70 to head home. As soon as I got back on the highway, I hit the wall of traffic that builds up every freaking Sunday. I putted along until I got to the Mt. Evans exit in Idaho Springs. I ran up to the Mt. Evans wilderness campsites, and checked out some of the campsites:

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/rtadlock/4873380586/" title="Untitled by rtadlock, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4116/4873380586_27e414097f_b.jpg" width="768" height="1024" alt="" /></a>

I came back to I-70 and then started east once again. The traffic was moving, but I decided to get off on US6 towards Golden and Central City. The road was nice, and I was flowing through the sweepers:

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/rtadlock/4873365310/" title="Untitled by rtadlock, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4121/4873365310_558032edc1_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="" /></a>

I turned off of 115 towards the Centennial Cone area, and had a nice fast ride down the dirt road and into Golden Gate Canyon. Jumped on 93 and headed home.

I road a total of 165 miles and I didn't want to stop, but like an idiot, I made plans for the afternoon.... :bluduh

Nice bike, great report and fantastic photography :thumb. I sure enjoyed my 950 Adventure, which has found a new home in Cheyenne, WY a few years ago :D.

I'll bet your cheeks are all cramped up from grinning all day:D
That's the hottest KTM colour scheme ever.
How do you find the EFI on that one?

I rode an earlier 990, but it was a bit jumpy in traffic. Felt fantastic over 100kmh though. That beast likes to go FAST!

I've had permagrin since I got this bike :D . Seriously, I love this thing! The EFI is definitely twitchy in traffic, but I find it's only really when I'm going about 12 - 15 mph. Slower than that, or faster, and it's no problem. I'm so used to riding sport bikes (my old VFR, and my buddies GSXR) that have super twitch EFI, that I didn't really find it out of the ordinary.
