Cool idea. I recently got into fly fishing and want to get a Ross Essence four-piece rod so that I can carry it on my Adventure. I hope someone has some ideas. I was thinking of just carrying the rod on a padded sleeve across the panniers and using my Pelican top case for other gear. My Pelican is not removable, though. Maybe one day I'll move up to the Caribou Luggage stuff.

I carry my search and rescue tracking sticks across the handle bars lashed to the mirror stalks with velcro. A fishing rod may do the same. Harbor freight or any welding shop carries (welding rod cases) these are much like tool tubes but better made with a waterproof seal. They make great fishing gear carriers as most even have a belt clip. I used one many times backpacking. Do you have a standard luggage plate on the ktm? A cheap duffel bag with a piece of plastic cutting board bolted through the bottom with eye bolts can be pulled down tight to the rear foot pegs with bungee cords.
    Catch a few for me.

I can't help Mike, much...as far as the top box. I've never seen anything like that.

But, for you, Orangecicle, I'd have to say...

Think it up, measure it up, draw it up, and then send it to Brady...

If you get a chance, scroll-thru the entire thread (It's not that long.) That dude can sew-up anything you can think of. He made me a custom bag, to perfectly fit the dimensions of my CJ rack. For all practical purposes, the bag is never off my bike. I beat the crap out of it, everyday.

I am not affiliated...just a happy customer. And, if I'm not mistaken, there are a coupla' other OCer's who use his stuff.

    Just some food for thought...

Now that's cool! I've been wanting some tool rolls for a long time. All my tools are piled in a bag in the back of my Xterra. I'll have to wait 'til I get the Ross to see what I need for that. Cool stuff!

I've always had good luck just using soft packs thrown into existing top box or side bags and using ties on the rod, aligned longitudinally. Modular tackle boxes in a regular top box might add versatility.

Regardless, you can get to some cool places...
