I just asked my wife if I could get a redhead for Christmas!

For some unknown reason, she now wants me to sleep in the spare bedroom and won't even look at me!

clocklaw - Is this a "Corbin close" or a standard? My '05 had a "close" on it & I hated it.......went back to OEM.

dan - The redhead is gonna SERIOUSLY disrupt my 5-year-get-out-of-debt plan........my gawd, the '14 is a sexy machine!!

Please give us an update on how you like the seat. How was their turn time, customer service, etc.? Also how grippy is the vinyl? I had a Mayer seat on my old V-Strom. It was comfy but every time I touched the brakes, I felt like I was sliding forward.

Hope I get a chance to ride sometime this week, the weather is supposed to be great. The customer service was great, Seth and I spent a good 20 minutes on the phone discussing my riding style and what I was looking for from the seat.....then we spent another 30 to 45 minutes talking motorcycles. My turn around time was a little delayed as FedEx delivered my seat to his door the afternoon before Thanksgiving and then it sat on a UPS truck somewhere in the mid-west during the ice storms / etc. but actual turn around time on Seth's part...he had it in the mail back to me in less than 2 days from laying his hand on it for the first time. Keep in mind that he doesn't check e-mail much, if you need something, call him. I'll say more once I have a chance to put a few miles on it, but I will add that Seth talked me out of the herringbone texture material because it will be too slick. I went with the carbon fiber look and it looks great!

    Hello,

Been lurking on this site for some time now.
    Thought I would introduce myself....
Have had my 04 for a bit over 3 years, put 50k on it since!
    She is no garage queen!
I live in CenCal in a very good spot to hit some amazing roads.
And, pretty much a year round riding season.
He is me this past Sept on a trip from Death Valley to the Lost Coast CA.
This is in a place called Ruth off of the highly rated (and rightfully so) CA HYW 36. If you ever get a chance, HWY 36 from Red Bluff west to the coast (Fortuna) is one of the top MC roads in the US. 140 miles of Nirvana.
    Love this site.

Thanks for the tip; I haven't ridden highway 36 yet, but highway 299 which parallels it through the Trinity National Forest in October (Arcata to Redding) was pretty darn nice.

Theyre both great, but 36 is better.... quite a bit better. If you want the nirvana day loop out of Redding, do 299 to Willow Creek, Titlow Hill to the Madd River Ranger Station on 36 (go a few miles W on 36 to have lunch at the Madd River Burger Bar), 36 to Platina, then A16 back to Redding. (Need to wait until Titlow is out from under snow and downed trees which is usually late-May but can sometimes be much later.)

Riding related at least here. Made a 1/2 mile test video this morning, but it's cold out so I didn't get very far.

Ok. Got some 2k burning my pocket.

    I'm thinking the following:

    Aerostitch Roadcrafter about $1000.00
    +
Canyon cages: about $450-500 ( in case I drop the bike on gravel and forest roads)
    +
    Maybe a Garmin gps: $450-600.00

+ sheepskin seat cover from Alaskan lady, as I rather like the stock seat.:eek1

I'm a moran but you ladies and guys probably will give me some good advice.

I'm 5'10 190lb, medium frame, in case someone with my proportions recommends a different suit.

Completely different option, get a small dual sport to ride around Albuquerque.

That amount of money would keep me on the road for about 3 weeks.

Well, that must mean you've got the time to leave 3 weeks at a time. I don't, I need to do my trips in under a week. However, I see your point. The priority is to have a great riding suit, so maybe I'll just do that and forgo the rest.
