It is not. And I would guess it has a Florida dirt bike title, as the 250 I bought from him did. They just rode these bikes locally as they border a forested area.
About 15 yrs ago I knew a guy who put supermoto wheels on a KX500, tag-slapped that mother and rode all over Pensacola on it, often on 1 wheel. He wouldn't let me ride it, I think he was skeered I'd loop it and he was prolly right. He had a brake light and headlight on it, and nothing else for street legality. I don't think he ever got busted! Of course, if I did it, they'd catch me on Day One, confiscate the bike, and put me UNDER the jail. Because Murphy is my co-pilot, ya know.

Since my five KTM's may not show up I'm going to start the search for something else I probably won't use- a Big DR. I've been through the theoretical options for a larger thumper- KLR, 690, XRL, etc and it seems the DR650 with some tweaks will do what I want with a little compromise. All dual sport bikes by nature are a compromise, and this situation is no different. I've got the KDX, and the airhead for real dirt, and all skreet. If someone has any other recommendations I'm all ears as LTJP would say.
Goal: big/solid enough to be able to camp two up with gear, and small enough to have a good time solo in the ANF
Given that 250 (and most likely the 450) has a FL dirt bike title I dont feel so bad now.
Yer on the right track with a DR650, put a good aftermarket seat on it for long-haul comfort, some soft bags and you'd be set. If ya feel like spending more $$ to do the same thing only faster, there's this option:

I've seen those TR650s pop up for the same price as a used DR650 lately. When I sold my 02 in 2009, I got $2900 and thought that was even a little high. Can't even smell one let alone ride one for that now. Look around, $4000 will get you a decent mileage TR650.
I say for the two up bit, a 950/990 Katoom is better suited. And, it'll still go off-road, just no deep ANF sand whoops.
Yeah, I'd like the extra grunt of a husky, but parts availability, and weak subframe combined with fuel range make it a non starter.
For something along this lines, I'd go back to a 690 bite the bullet on big tanks.
FWIW part availability has been a non issue for me AND a shitload of them cross reference with BMW.
The subframe is as stout as any bike, they are as much a pack mule as a KLR.
Well, a pretty fast pack mule anyways.
Range could be better, but its useable.
I typically fill up around 180 miles when traveling and I am not the most aerodynamic fella/tend to get worse milage than most.
It is not as good a dirt bike as the 690, but it is a significantly better street bike.
And you can put tubeless cast wheels on them that make them darn near as good a street bike as a 650 Strom while still being a significantly better dirt bike.
I dont find it very good looking, but it looks like you can still get 8.5 gals with the Safari tank.
All of the safari and Baja tanks all look like crap to me. That one took an already weird looking bike into the ugly zone.
Makes the bike look pregnant, but some guys like preggers. I bet the range is impressive...I could easily make do with a ~200 mile range though.
~200 mi range is doable for ANF, E.G., BW etc solo. Then you throw on a pillion, bags, and camping stuff. Then you'll be looking for fuel at 140 or so I'm guessing. Not that my butt or bladder can take much more than that, but stopping to stretch, or take a piss and pushing for 9 miles because the tank is dry are worlds apart in my book. I never got that argument about needing a break and needing fuel should come at the same time. The thimble tanks I've had in the past warrant oversized now and suck it up on the looks/weight of extra capacity fuel tanks.
Jumping out of a perfectly good ride to hunt gas because it looks better with the slim stock tank ain't my idear of a good time. But what do I know, I don't even ride anymore
I'll back that up by saying- The day I got the call that Tony hit the log I ran out of fuel twice on the KLX250s with the stock tank. Once in the afternoon close to a station, and once hauling ass home to get ready to go to pensacola the next morning. Running out with a group of riders is comical most of the time, but when you have a voicemail that a good friend was life flighted and the bike sputters to a stop it's much more of an issue.
Anyone keeping reptiles? I've got some cages and don't see myself keeping tree vipers anytime in the near future. Neodesha 24" and Vision #222's several of each. If there is any interest let me know and I'll get some pics.

LGwt480 - Washer is roughly 5 years old. Comes with hoses. Top loader with fancy buttons; can take big loads (ha!)!
GE Profile - Works but a little rough around the edges. Dries family of 5 like a champ!
