    Hey guys,

My brother and his friend are planning to fly(from Canada) to Germany, buy bikes(used of course) and ride for a month before taking the bikes back to Canada with them.

Is it possible in Germany for them to obtain registration and insurance for this purpose?

Im NATO posted here, so my licencing/registering of the vehicles is not allowed under our SOFA agreement.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Sure, you can buy export plates with insurance from any vehicle registration office. They are valid for up to a year in all EU countries.

Temporary plates ("kurzzeitkennzeichen", the ones with a yellow date field) are good for only 5 days so they don't suit your purposes.

Export plates are called "ausfuhrkennzeichen" and you can identify them from a red area in the plate.

There are also places that offer the plates online if you want to avoid the office trip, eg. this: http://www.zollkennzeichen.de/
(I'm not sure if they offer motorcycle plates, though)

Of course the bikes will have to be 15 years or older to be allowed into Canada,,,,,,,,,,but they know that already.
