I think I go the starting thing figured out. Thanks for all the help. It definitely helps to slowly kick it over a few times before really giving it. Starts 3rd-4th kick now. I did also up the pilot jet, put on a new carb boot and change the plug so that may also have helped.

Went out for a ride tonight and took some more left side pics......:D

What a great night for a ride.

Here's the right side for those who don't think it exists....:rofl

Not bad looking overall, but here's the problem

A friend of mine is in the machining and casting business and he assures me that making something that looks like this will be easy.

I'll take his word for it. Winter project:clap

I have been watching this from the start... time for me to to chime in.

    OUTSTANDING!!!! :clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

Photos in front of the barn/old building is the perfect setting for your work of art.

Tell your friend that does the castings to get ready to make a bunch of parts in case you happen share his contact information.:deal

Great job bro, my hat is off to you!
    You should be very proud.

    Cheers,
    Mark

Thanks Mark. I'm thinking I'll make 2-3 side covers just in case. Plus I'll have the mold positive to make more if needed.

I won this RAD Steve Mcqueen helmet for best in show last night at a local bar motorcycle show.

Came with a matching bag. Pretty cool but not sure I'll wear it. I'll put it next to the pig:D.

My friends and I had a pretty good night. 5 of us won 7 awards including Best American (Cushman), Best Japanese (KZ1000 with all GSXR suspension) and Best Custom (Hydrostatic diesel powered weirdness) and my best in show. And we didn't even know the people putting it on.

One of my buds was a judge. He said it wasn't even close. Nice bit of kit, well done.

After reading this whole thread my main thought is that you need to change your user name to just "Builder". Forget that "Re" crap.

Id build one in a second too that's why I bought the motor but I want to give credit for the work that rebuilder put in and build with his blessing as the first pioneer.

Guys have asked me if I would help with building a duplicate of what I did and I'm happy to help but I ain't making plans:lol3

Since the merkel is essentially a custom frame that's what I want is the frame drawing everything else I can sorta wing as I go.

When I saw this at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum a few days back i thought of your build.

This one looks good in "patina".

You could quite easily 'disguise' or camoflage the right side. Just look in the kitchen section of your local Supermarket like you did for the air cleaner..........sweeet

Ha... I think one repurposed kitchen item on the bike is enough.

If I ever get around to it I have a friend that's going to help me cast a whole new aluminum sidecover. He says no problem, I say we'll see about that. If it works out I'll be sure to get this thread going again with some pics.
