Another groovy experience in the Black Hills. 8 days in the hills with one cold rainy day off riding to visit bike shops. 4 nights camping at Sheridan Lake and 4 in a Keystone motel when the weather turned.

That time of year. It's in the air. But this time, I have a place in AZ! Trick is getting the bike there. Planning the third week of October. Anybody know Apache Junction? Mrs. Skysailor bought a cheap hangout. I'm figuring on two flights down over the winter. Should be an adventure.

I have no idea if it will work for Wpg to AZ, but worth a try.

Buy down there, Lots of cheap dual sprts on the flea market and CL, and then either store it at the place you are living or rent a 5x8 locker to store it in.

Yup. A cheap 250 would do the trick.

Probably a KLR would do the job! A 250 has a pretty limited top speed, short fuel range and will cost about the same to purchase.

HF!! It's NOT raining. Time for a warm up scoot and an oil change under the tree.

Wonder why they suspect a blown piston ring. Rings tend to wear slowly, resulting in a steady increase in oil consumption and blue smoke. If something 'blew' and resulted in poor compression, noise, etc, I wonder if a valve seat might have dropped. Hard to say without more info. If the ring cracked or failed somehow, might be looking at damage to the cylinder and require a bigger piston and a bore job. But man, I'd think you could call a Suzuki dealership and get parts overnighted. I know you can do that with Honda, they make an order every day. Last time I ordered parts for my XR they arrived in a day or two.

That said, if the bike isn't running, I thinking pulling the head and jug would be the smart thing to do first. Figure out exactly what is going on in there, and then order the appropriate parts. Sure would suck to get a shop to order a piston and rings only to find out yours is fine.

Yes but it sounds like they are theorizing and simply want to know where a decent shop is to get it fixed and to get some parts in a timely fashion. They dont say what direction they are heading but Winnipeg, where dealerships and shops abound, is realistically only a couple hours away.
