We stopped to take this photo for the benefit of GreatWhiteNorth, who apparently enjoys greenery.

As BackRoader mentioned, we had a great time on the Onion Creek road. Got wet on the water crossings and saw more great sites.

Here he is going thru one of the 20 or so water crossing on this road.

BackRoader after a well times soaking from me. He mentioned his riding suit was not water proof. :evil

At the bottom of the Rose Garden Hill. Very steep, big rocks and way too much for me to even attempt. :eek1
    [IMG]

Another pic of Rose Garden. As if it wasn't hard enough there are big ledges near the top.

On the way back to Moab from Onion Creek along the Colorado River. Really nice road to ride.

BackRoader stretching out along the same road.

    More to come.

Now we're finally seeing some good Moab shots! I knew you guys spent some time out riding and not all of it was at the pool :lol3

Rose Garden Hill, what can I say...your photos don't do justice. It's just plain rough and steep and your pics show the bottom 1 tenth of the total hill. I sat at the bottom by myself looking up and thought no way! I would try it if I had 3 other riders with me with the same motocross style bikes and the same or better expertise...and we would still be pushing dragging the bikes up :huh

Here are some hardcore dudes tackling the Rose Garden Hill this year. Scroll to post # 51 http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=629423&page=4 :eek1

Just got off the phone with the PifflePartner - the wifi at his motel is a bit hinky, and we although we could see each other using FaceTime, the audio was abysmal - hence the phone call. He also said he was totally thrashed from the last couple of days, and given the wifi deficits, he was too tired to try posting...so here's an update...

If you have been following his progress, you know he went through Tucumcari, NM, which is where the Clint Eastwood TV show "Rawhide" was filmed. It was also the place where the main action for his film "A Few Dollars More" was filmed...:clap

He also got some kicks on Route 66. Apparently he had taken a detour onto that famous road in order to get around a snowstorm on Highway 40 - only to run into the traffic congested aftermath of a major accident involving a semi.:huh

The temperature was around 5 degrees for most of the day, and Mark96 was right - the wind was about half of what he had to deal with yesterday. Apparently they are expecting a record low tonight in the area he is currently staying in - which is Grants, NM. He is going to curl up, snug as a bug, and hopefully get a good night's sleep before he has to head through some mountain passes in Arizona tomorrow...with 194 named ranges in that state, he is bound to see some interesting countryside...:pynd

That Rose Garden is just plain crazy. :eek1
I couldn't see the real rough stuff from the bottom.

Piffle, don't know if you're a big fan of pie. If you are, you are only 2 hours north of the best pies in the world. There is a place in New Mexico on US 60 called PieTown... supposedly named because they have the BEST. I stopped in there a few years ago on an adventure and enjoyed sweet potatoe pie. uuuummmm good!
Careful though, you might blow by the place at Piffle speed and miss it....it's pretty small

    Nice shots Mark!

I have your address but I need 2whlrider and BackRoader to PM or email me with their snail mail addresses.

Light coating of snow today, not much but enough to remind me that I shouldn't be here :lol3

Met some very interesting fellow adv'ers in Moab. Actually ran into them on 3 occassions. Twice at McDonalds and once at Buck's Steakhouse. Gene and Neda are from Toronto and are about 5 months into a 1.5 year ride to the southern tip of Argentina. They rode through Winnipeg in June.

Here is the link to their RR on adv

and here is their very cool personal travel site that they update regularly from free wifi hotspots such as McDonalds

I am so glad I ran into them and enjoyed a java or 2 over some fabulous conversation...I will be following their adventure online.

Brian finally got in touch to say he is with Bent Forks in Mesa - and not splattered in the middle of the freeway on the outskirts of town, as his SPOT seems to indicate. Says he started the day riding in -10c weather, and ended it at +27C...

    Phew....:clap
