    Badger is a nice trip across! Might want to book ahead if you can. I got on it without booking but that was a midnight crossing. Not sure how it is now, that was back in 2001. There was talk of it not running this year...

    It was always so unusual to see another KLR in day to day travel that I'd get a real surge if I saw another one on the road. It was like being in a secret club or something.

    If ever I didn't wave at anyone, it was usually because I plain didn't notice the other bike. Made me feel a bit bad, like the other rider might feel that I had snubbed them. :(:

    But now that I'm on a GS, such lapses will merely be seen as business as usual now :lol3


    ....sometimes I don't wave to Harley guys; the ones who look like the sort who would rather curb stomp me than crack a smile. They might be swell guys, but I wouldn't want them to spoil their carefully tailored self image nontheless.

    The Gold Wing Radar screen was pretty funny. I've seen some that were so loaded that wouldn't surprise me.

    I did a lap of lake superior later in the summer this past year and ended up in keweenaw and loved it, however the part that got me on top of everything you listed, was the damn OPP I seen one every 20 minutes guaranteed from just past thunder bay to just past Wawa, that will be the first and last time I do the trip on the Canadian side I think.

    Across the top of Superior is a more scenic ride than the more northerly route, however you're absolutely correct; the OPP has an inordinately heavy presence there, holiday weekends being particularly onerous. Keep it no more than 10 KPH over and you should have no issues, other than in towns. YMMV. :deal

    Aw come on, their not that bad...if you don't wear that high vis clothing and go really really fast while standing on your pegs, they won't even see you :evil :lol3

    Hey fellow Mb ADV'ers, so im looking into picking up my first dual sport bike this summer ( after i sell my Road glide)
    anyway, i've reccently been looking at the Husky TR650 terra and im wondering if any of you guys have dealt with S.A.R?
    in stienback. is there any other dealer in our area for husky's that i should consider?

    on a side note, has anyone here riden this TR650? Thanks for your input.

    Im living in Thompson by the way so no matter where my next bike is i have to drive atleast 700+kms for it.

    Don't know much about SAR, and much less about the Husky.

    I personally would lean towards a dual sport that has good access to service, parts and plenty of farkles.
    Exotic dual sports are expensive to purchase and even more expensive to maintain. Parts are sometimes difficult to get on short notice.

    Just my opinion.

    I concur with Backroader...
    I don't know what your background is, you may well be the best dirt rider ever seen...
    My understanding is that the Husky is a machine you want to keep close to home until you've proven it. (Never happened in my knowledge.) And then you want a support vehicle.
    That's just my understanding.
    I would pick something (as Backroader alludes to) a bit more mainstream, so you can leave the support vehicle behind.... And find parts when on the dual-sport track... :deal

    I like what I see online about the TR650. Looks a lot like KLR V2.0 with better gas mileage (but smaller tank), lots more power, not as tall, cool looking, just a little more $. SAR has one in stock now (unless they sold it).

    On the other hand, it's going to be tough to repair yourself (EFI vs carb), you'll have fewer (nonexistent?) options for baling wire and duct tape fixes to get you out of the boonies, parts will be expensive and not as readily available, there will be limited aftermarket for awhile, less wind protection and it looks less roomy than a KLR. And the peer support (places like this) for the KLR is unmet anywhere.

    BackRoader's KLX is an awesome bike, more off-road capable than KLR or TR650 and anything you get from him will be beyond immaculate. We have a huge KLR community here in Winnipeg too.

    Don't get me wrong, I love what I see about this bike too.

    Just wouldn't like to be in the gnarlys, hundreds (or BIG hundreds) of KMs from anything, to discover what the unknown weak points are. Best to do that close to home.

    That, in my mind, currently excludes it as a dualsport of choice.
    Above all, when I'm on a big KM ride, I want reliability. (Shit will happen regardless... Why be the guinea pig?)
    Could be, this bike will prove to have everything I've wanted. In the meantime, I'll stick with what I know.
    (Or maybe I'll get it for local runs until it's proven itself.! )
    Oh wait, I don't do local runs. :huh

    I figure mechanically it's almost a BMW F650 (whatever their thumper dual sport is, I find their model numbers pretty obscure) with similar strengths and weak points. So that gives us a starting point for evaluating it.

    You guys make some good points, but as far as i see it no matter what i buy my closest dealer is 7 or so hours away.
    out of the four efi bikes i've had i've never had any kind of issues so that does'nt really worry me. I also don't see myself riding this bike thousands of kms from my home base, (but you never know) expensive? S.A.R is listing this bike on there website for around $8500, comming from the world of american cruisers looking at any new bike that retails under 10g's
    seems exciting. As far as the KLR, i dunno. i did consider it but it looks to me like just not enough power and it would need to many upgrades to make it just right, suspension, seat, HP goodies...I dunno. i have lots of time to keep looking. I just wanted someone to tell me that S.A.R was a good dealer to work with really. thanks again for the input guys.

    SAR is pretty new and a small operation, I don't know anyone that has dealt with them.

    I don't know if Wildwood Sports would service the Husky (they are BMW dealer and BMW owns Husky now).

    One of the things I would look at when deciding on buying a bike is the size of the fuel tank. Any dual sport is a good one in my opinion but its the fuel range thats important to me. IMS and Clark have larger tanks available and I would make sure there was one for my bike before I bought the bike. KLR`s have a large tank so thats not any problem. I think you can actually get a 6 gallon for the KLR. Around town/local area, sooner or later you will want to go further and fuel will be needed.
