Fork height with stock triples - does it make any sense?

    Hi!

    I was wondering about lowering my forks into the triples a bit and checking out how the bike behaves that way (especially offroad) - now it's about 4-5mm above the triples.

    Has anybody tried this yet? How far can I lower them into the triple? Does it make any sense?

    You can raise the front so the the top of the fork tube is flush with the triple clamp. 4-5 mm should be noticeable and should make the bike slightly less quick on turn in and slightly more stable in a straight line.

    Don't go below flush. 5mm will make a big difference in regards to stability in loose dirt/sand. You can also add to that effect by having a bit more rider sag in the rear. Basically softening the rear preload a little.

    I lowered my forks to flush after 1000kms and I can say the difference is definitely noticeable over the last 4000kms. Do it if you are riding loose stuff a lot. If on the pavement more then leave them raised up for street stability. You're basically decreasing the trail in the front end by lowering your forks to flush. I've gone even further now with a 20mm triple tree set and flush forks and I'm loving the bike off road. Soon SPS will take care of my silly short travel 210mm forks, :)
