I've just bought a bike in the USA with the idea of doing some touring. The other night I was watching Forrest Gump again and thought I would like to visit the spot where Forrest quits his epic run in the middle of the desert. Does anyone know where that is?
    Regards,
    Mark.

That may be the best movie ever produced.

The actual sign is North of Monument Valley, UT.

Just North of Monument Valley on US-163. The view is looking South towards Monument Valley. There is a pulloff there, at the top of the rise. "Everyone" stops for that photo.

    I did, in 2005.

Yep, thats the spot. Thanks. I'll post you all a pic when I get there next month. I ride for stunning scenery like this, I don't think I'll be disappointed.
Rockers59, I see you're a Guzzista, the bike I bought in the USA is another 1200 Sport. I just like em.

Don't know when you'll be here in The States, but there will be a Guzzi gathering at Ouray Colorado June 21/22/23. I can provide details, if you're going to be in the area.

    Mike

p.s. don't skip the chance to go down into Monument Valley. Nice visitor center at the rim, and a 17 mile (dirt) road that's worth checking out.

While your there, don't miss the Moki Dugway and Gooseneck State Park. Both are not far from there, north of Mexican Hat.

Thanks guys for the info.:clap This will be my 1st trip to the USA. I've given myself 5 weeks to ride from Florida to California, which is most probably barely enough time to scatch the surface. I plan to pick up ol Route 66 somewhere around Oklahoma City and sniff my way to the west coast, so any suggestions in that general area are appreciated.
I plan to return for more travels after the Isle of Man TT in June, but I haven't decided on that itinery just yet. Every trip evolves from just a thought, and I'm thinking Alaska,

Now look at at what you've done.
well they better put another plank of wood on the sign,
Because it's going to covered with adv sticker's this year.
looking at older ride reports and new reports,
the Dalton highway sign, you see that sign threw the years get covered with stickers.
looking forward to the ride report.

I was there a few years ago but don't remember seeing the Forrest Gump sign. That area is one of my favorites, so I'll be heading back there in June. If you have time, keep going after you go up the Moki Dugway across Lake Powell to Capital Reef, Dixie National Forrest and Escalante. All are awesome, and you'll even get to stop at the Hollow Mountain gas station in Hanksville Ut.

Must've ridden by it a dozen times and never noticed. From cannonshot's map it looks like it is close to the Mexican Hat rock.

Many, many years ago it was.
Today, it's just another tourist crap spot - open wallet, get boozed, get a T, etc.

    12 to 15 miles close.

Mexican Hat Rock is just northeast of the town of Mexican Hat.

I promised a photo, but I'm slack, and I haven't mastered this photo sharing business. But I did indeed get to Monument Valley, and had a very enjoyable stay thanks to the generosity and kindness of JJ Headshrinker of Kayenta. Moki Dugway and Valley Of The Gods was just fantastic. I'm sure that as my memory fades to black, ths trip will linger longest.
