Almost every day yielded a story. We had a lot of fun working there, Donny Emler started there as a wrench who had a sponsorship from Rickman to race 125cc Pro on a Rickman Zundapp. After he left Precision Cycles, Donny (who loved the HP you could get out of the Zundapp) made a bastard bike he called the Pendapp, which was a Zundapp motor in a Penton frame.

Character is an understatement when it came to EC. Example:

EC was a short little guy, who hated the music we played in the backroom of the Lawndale shop. There was a very large mechanic nick named "Luke" who liked his music and kept turning the radio up louder and louder. EC would shuffle back and forth between his office, the sale counter and the back room where the mechanics worked on bikes and the bench for us "grinders" ported. Every time EC would walk through, he would turn the little portable radio down. Luke got tired of having to turn the music back up so he put the radio on top of a row of shelves that divided the back room, out of EC's reach. EC came through and when he couldn't reach the radio he got really pissed off. He went into his office where he kept a 30-30 Winchester, walked up to the front of the store and shot the radio, from the front, passed his office, and into the backroom!!!!!! I was working in the backroom at the time. The bullet destroyed the radio, and then went into a cardboard box that had an engine of a big Macio waiting for parts. The bullet went through the cases of the Macio, bounced off the crank, and then bounced a couple of times off the walls of the brick building!!!! There were prolly 4 of us in the room he shot into!!!

Now the "Character" part and the pure EC Birt part of the story: EC told the owner of the Macio that the bike had come into the shop with broken center cases and that he went ahead and had it repaired (with out first telling the owner) and then presented the owner with a bill to repair the damage!!!!!!
