    FOUND: BMW right side pannier
About 3 PM Friday July 20, 2012 while driving on I-70 near Georgetown, Colorado, I found a BMW pannier.

The case was locked, but I was able to pick the lock. There are some very unique items in the case so I will be able to tell if you are trying to pull a fast one.

Looks like it might fit a late 90's early 2000's RS or GT.

I don't know the BMW nomenclature, so don't rag on me for wrong or incorrect models. I'm just trying to help somebody out.

Here is a pic to help identify which models it might fit:

Yet another example of WHY to put your NAME/CONTACT information on a discrete label on the OUTSIDE of the case.

    I lost a Vario.
Yes...it was locked...but it had my NAME/CONTACT information on the INSIDE. Obviously, difficult/impossible to get into. Never got back.

I have this model of panniers on my 1150GS. Not saying it's mine. I live in Sweden. Just mentioning that it may also be a 1150GS Pannier.

Just a quick thought. Since the panniers (at least mine) opens with the ignition key of the bike. Wouldn't it be possible to check the locking cylinder for the key number and check with a BMW rep. if they can compare it in any database or something. At least Horatio Kane would pull it off...

Toby_Wan, there are no marks on the key cylinder. Maybe it has been changed. I was able to pick the lock very easily. The panel on the inside covering the back of the lock are riveted on.

I think I will wait for a few days (to see if the owner contacts me) before I tear the case apart.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

That bag will fit the 1100/ 1150 RT, RS, GS, 1100S S, and maybe the 1200KRS. There are no serial #'s on BMW tumblers so tracking that way is impossible. Someone mentioned that maybe it's off a bike that was headed to Sedalia.......probably spot on. The ad on the MOA site will probably be your best bet. Or, you could just hang out on interstate 70 waiting to see if they happen to pass by on the return trip. Should be easy to spot. :lol3

Well, it wasn't a rally goer, as the rider was headed west from Denver.

The lock has been picked and there was nothing inside to ID the owner, other than the personal items inside the bag.. Looks to be an 1150RT or similar bag. The touring emblem wasn't typical on bags other than for RT's if I remember correctly

So, if you know someone who was headed west and arrived with only a left hand bag, send em here for contact info. :thumb

Jim posted this on the KLRforum and I'm just helping.. :)

I had Touring logos on a similar looking case on an R1100S
However when I replaced the lids with the narrow ones I was also advised that US bikes would normally mount a reflector there.

There is also a BMW gathering going on this week in Salida, Colorado. It could belong to someone heading there also.
I think this has been posted on a number of forums, so if they ever look at the forums.

He said “many of the riders ride quiet bikes” and the rally is dedicated to being as respectful to the community as possible.

    SHHHHHHHHHHHH.
