I am curious if anyone knows what grade of aluminum BMW uses on the front upper frame section?

Most Asian dirt bikes use 6061 T6...but this is BMW....

    It's not aluminum; it's unobtanium.

It also looks like a cast part to me.

No wonder they always like to tip over, they're trying to drill to the Earth's core.:rofl:lol3

I was just out looking at mine and it looks like it's made of the same steel as the rest of the frame.
Maybe I'm not looking at the same thing as OP.

It is definately cast aluminum...that I know, I am curious if it is 6061 or 50 series 40 series...or what. Also is it heat treated?

Just to clarify why, I am welding a 1998 Honda CR 125 R steering neck to that front upper frame and putting inverted forks on it. I am doing it similar to Fabrice's build {Fab418} so I just want to pick the right rod to weld with and then have it all heat treated...but 50 series aluminum is not heat treatable. The CR neck is 6061-T6 heat treated aluminum from what I have found...just need to know.

    Thanks

    Why?
That is the same steering neck/upper frame as a GS. The part number is the same as the RT. I know the bike will be in Some Assembly Resquired....but this is specifically an OILHEAD question.
