20160609_020352.jpg 20160517_130008.jpg A solo world tour attempt. Starting gate is in Kamloops BC Canada with the goal of heading south to Panama. Then skip down to South America and then hop over to Africa or Europe (I'll decide which place first when the time comes}. I'd luv to include China if I can figure out how to do it on my bike. Apparently China ain't so welcoming for outsider bike touring.
I'm 51 years old but not retired as the title might suggest. It just means that I have the freedom to do this trip at this time. And it's also very important to note that this journey is dedicated to my late Mother and the reason my bike is named "Helga Maria". It's also very fitting to be riding a KTM since my Mother and my bike's homeland is Austria.
I will be in Kamloops til at least next week since I am getting my suspension rebuilt at Rider's Edge in Vernon and waiting for the parts to arrive. My stock '06 bike will get upgraded to the "S" suspension ... and a few other possible alterations.
I will be mostly camping and living as low budget as possible so I can travel as long as possible. I am about 95% ready to go with just a few items left to get.
The actual beginning of this story started in Alberta a few weeks ago, so I'll start by posting a few pics for those of you who haven't experienced this part of the world.

All my worldy belongings are either sold or in storage at a friend's house and my actual address will be wherever my license plate is and hang my helmet ;)

A mix of hippies, the wealthy and athletes....this is a very active outdoor community. And is very clean. Also home to one of the BEST pizzaria's called Pizza Construction. It's soooo good that it's worth having it shipped overseas Lol

Not just a desert little town.
Within 15mins you can be here at Paul Lake in the forested back country. And many more lakes in the surrounding back country. 20160601_134609_HDR.jpg 20160601_134645_HDR.jpg And if you prefer more rural and no pavement.....you can soon get on a dirt road and get to here in about another 20mins. Hyas Lake is a smaller fishing area with a little camp to rent cabins or camp on your own. 20160601_150207_HDR.jpg 20160601_145007_HDR.jpg

Coming out of the mountains into the Pritchard farming area. And the mighty Thompson River. Great for water recreation and a healthy Salmon run. 20160601_152739_HDR.jpg 20160601_154150_HDR.jpg The terrain changes quickly around here and I need to adjust my brain to on road and off road riding skills. It sometimes fails and I am quickly reminded when using my front brake offroad. I'm sure you know what I mean Lol

....and still waiting on suspension parts :(

I started this thread when I did because I was sure I'd be no more than a week in Kamloops. But I'm still waiting for suspension parts and new Wings exhaust. I can't believe how heavy the stock one's really are. So off they come. Also switching
out the stock sprockets and chain to Ironman and RK. Also changing from stock 17/42 to 16/45 for better offroad maneuvering. Will be rebooting to Heidenau K60's for the long ride thru the States probably only spending an extended time in Utah and Arizona for some great scenery and offroad fun. Seems my Conti TKC 80's hate pavement as much as I do Lol. Also am reforming the stock seat for more height to give me a better feel and especially more knee room.
My biggest problem right now is I haven't received my license renewal from Alberta. It's been over 3 weeks waiting and they said there is a big back log of renewals from the Ft Mac fire disasters. Lots of people lost their belongings in the rush to evacuate. So I'm still hanging out in Kamloops (at a friends house) waiting and waiting and riding and riding. 20160531_072619.jpg 20160602_161719_HDR.jpg 20160516_115755_HDR.jpg
Holy jeebus I'm going to need another oil change by the time I'm outta here :dirtdog

Kamloops is a very big bikers town. Lots of road, offroad and dual sport enthusiasts. Bikes o plenty and although there are bad driver's and clueless pedestrians everywhere. ....It seems this town is very biker aware. Lots of bike rallys through here and dirt bikes in almost every pickup truck.....well it seems that way haha.
This is a great place to hang out and ride.:-)

    The waiting game.....:lobby

    WOWEEEE!!!!
I'm still waiting on my license renewal and suspension parts. I did my license request on May 10th. Now they tell me I will have to
go back to Alberta and reapply if I choose not to keep waiting. They can't do it over the phone. A signature is required. And the suspension parts are just in but cant be installed til next Friday. Man oh man I didn't expect this kind of delays before I even get started!!!
Although technically I am actually on my trip now and living on my bike. Luckily I have a good friend who doesn't mind me hanging out til all things are in place and it's Go Time to ride south.

The Wings cans are on and Wow they are amazing. I could feel the performance immediately and the throttle response is cleaner and crisper The light weight also adds to better handling and of course....."because sound matters" LOL. A great investment and definite upgrade!!!

Just found your RR goodcat, I shall be following along. Who knows, we might meet up on the road. We set off on our RTW trip in eight weeks time. We'll stay in touch.

Suspension done @ Rider's Edge and boy oh boy what a fantastic improvement over stock. Much better handling !!!!!! I highly recommend this shop and he has a great reputation that crosses borders. Thanks Ian.

And while I'm handing out thank you's.....I have to make mention to the great help from Barry at Valley Moto Sports in Kelowna. Cheers mate.

I removed the panic post about the swingarm because we may have a solution.
But I still might need a new swingarm. Hoping for the best.

Also.....my license was tracked down and it was returned to Ottawa. Now they are going to resend it to me here in Kamloops.

Things are looking up....."it's the final countdown". That song keeps repeating in my head Lmfao

    A Lady Luck day......

1st I check the mail whilst having my most important meal of the day (morning coffee) and my drivers licence renewal is here. Hooray :clap

After my morning ritual I decide to ride to Kelowna and pick up my new shorty clutch lever at Valley Moto Sports. And what a great shop it is. They quickly install it and adjust my gear lever (because I needed it lowered to match my lower set foot pegs) in less than 10 minutes and free of charge. Thanks guys.
Then I see an orange 950 adventure parked at the shop with a Seat Concepts seat on it and see the owner as he's about to leave. Now this may not seem exciting to most people but to me that seat is the last thing on my wish list for my bike. So we chat about the seat and he tells me its for sale. Well my eyes light up with excitement. He says I can have it right now in trade for my stock seat plus $100.......I sez ubetcha and we make the deal on the spot ... switch seats and we both ride away happy.

Sometimes the Gods just smile on ya :-) 20160625_191446_HDR.jpg
