The next morning Cal rode off towards Pheonix where he would store his bike and fly home the next day.
All in all it was great meeting and traveling w/ Cal and I was glad to have the decision to ride North with him. Otherwise, who knows how long it would have taken me to get to the border.
Also, when Cal cancelled his TVIP he asked them about my situation and they said it's fine.... I will just lose my deposit. That was very kind of Cal to inquire for me and it also set my mind at ease.

I spent the day wondering around and taking some photos. Lots of trinket shops here and more pharmacy's and Dentist's than I have ever seen. A couple times I had the pharmacy guys come out to the street and ask me if I needed anything. They rattled off drugs I have never heard of. But I did recognize the word Viagra hahaha. Seems this town is littered with hookers and at night it's quite evident who they are. And they hang out on the street of my hotel and mingle with everyone, including the Federalies LOL. This little town is full of entertainment, but in reality it's a shithole place with garbage and poverty all over. But it's a cool little spot where our hotel is for a few days.

And that's the border crossing which I took over a year ago and was my first introduction to MX. It was quite a shock for me back then and I just wanted to get outta here. But after a year of traveling, my mindset has changed a lot and I feel more comfortable in these type of towns.
I certainly wouldn't make this place a destination to visit but in this case it is a necessary evil that turned out to be a cool experience.

Hmmm... not sure how kindly they would react to me taking photos of them, but I guess it can't hurt to ask. But trust me, they're nothing that will knock your socks off haha. Would be an interesting photo shoot though. Plus, they seem kind of shy. Not really in your face kind of salesmanship like the store vendors here. They just sit quietly at the bar or hang out on the street like regular folks.

Change of plans already.... my buddy in AZ is having his kids over for the weekend, so I'll be hanging out here til Monday.

Hey Goodcat. I've been away for a while but just got caught up on your report. A wirlwind of activity since I was here last. What a great trip you have had and now you've come full circle. Thanks so much for sharing your adventures. You are an inspiration. Welcome back though I hope you return soon. Can't wait for your next report to the bottom of the world. Keep riding and stay thirsty my friend.

Thanks for the kindness. It's a strange feeling being back where I was a year ago. I'm pretty sure this isn't the end. Going to AZ is just an intermission to regain needed focus and unload the extra baggage I aquired. I'm fighting to stay away from cold weather and especially snow. So the plan is now to stay away from Canada til Spring.

    Stay tuned ...

goodcat do you remember the name of the hotel in Mazatlan? Heading into Baja in a week or so and tossing around the idea of crossing over on the ferry and heading to the beaches south although I'm sure they will be crowded over Christmas holidays. I laugh when I read your report as we are like two peas not in a pod, I've done the run up towards the border that you just finished (albeit going to Mexicali vs Nogales) and enjoyed the ride quite a bit while I stress about riding South. I freely admit your way is better :) .

My hotel was OK but Cal has a better place I believe.
He stayed at the Belmar, which is located in the local's zone and is right on the beach. Also safe moto parking and cheapish price.
It's on the main drag but at the south end. If you need more info, just let me know and I'll send it to you.

For me, the south of MX is much safer also has much more to offer. Anything from about central MX and South is truly incredible. Stay in touch if you come down and I can give you some nice safe places to hang out.
