Hello Team Thumper, I have the 05-640 and want to put the most agressive mx tire on the front, but I am concerned with the clearance with that shiny new orange rally fender. Has anyone had any expierence with what works? And is there a way to raise that fender if needed?

Not totally sure, but look into fitting a high front fender from an '03 and earlier. Probably just a matter of calling your local KTM dealer. Creeper will know if its a direct bolt on, maybe some kind of brake line issue.

I do believe that as it is for all intents and purposes a ninefiddy front end, your best search will be in the ninefiddy forum... lots of LC8 owners that have been tossed on their arses have opted to install a high fender, and some loose the right brake as well.

If all you want to do is raise it up an inch, no one makes a production kit that I am aware of. Shouldn't be to hard to make... just an adaptor. You could do it from split aluminum tubing... cut cut cut, drill drill drill, countersink here and there... and you'll need to get a longer cross-over hose too.

Look in Orange Crush... I'm sure those guys have tried a variety of methods.

    Good raising,
    Creep

I would be leary of Linzi's method... she didn't specify what color of duct tape, so you know she's full of it. :evil

Silver, of course... You can't go wrong with Alabama Chrome.

Just source the parts from KTM directly and save a bunch. I can't really see a downside, on the 950 the rear of the fender has to be modified to allow enough air to pass for cooling, not an issue on a 640.

Some good pics: (950, but it's the same forks you have.)

Mixed search results, but there are a few high fender conversions hidden in here:

There was an orange LC4E, I think it was a 2000 model. That's how I got a matching orange seat when I converted my SXC to an 18l tank. A friend of mine just converted his LC4 to orange, so I know it's still available.

Being as there were no changes to the LC4 front fender, it should bolt right on. Just check to make sure you have the threaded holes in your lower triple clamp.

It's a good idea to get rid of that low fender. You couldn't shim it enough to save your ass if you find yourself in the mud.

get a local fabricator to make some aluminum spacers - just LOOK at your fender's mounting points and then think "how do i raise this mutha?" and then put the spacers in. the 950 folks been doin it in europe with no problems.

figure out how much clearance you can get with your brake crossover line and then use it - or get a longer line from Motion Pro (custom).

report back when you have done it for the other 49 05-640 folks.
