I have had the 350LM for sometime but never tried to build routes. I have made a few now and tried an off road one over the weekend. It showed my route as a line with no other detail, such as other roads? This might not be the best unit for me as I want to use it mostly for off road and riding in Baja. Not sure if I should look at the Montana 650 and sell this unit or am I missing something on building my route? I have spent hours reading on the subject and am completely confused.... HELP!!!

Sounds like you don't have maps loaded, or enabled. Have you registered the unit with Garmin and checked for map updates? Go here, get and install Express, then register and check for updates. The LM means lifetime maps, and the maps follow the unit, not the owner, so even if you got it used, you can get maps for it for free. https://support.garmin.com/faqSearch/en-US/faq/content/HvK5AzTIpe9OevxlCXCoP6

I have one.. and it's taken me a while to figure it out. First off, for off-road riding, turn off "re-route" in settings. Secondly, it will only show you complete area maps if you're hooked to the computer. Otherwise, it's pretty sparse. Once you make TRACKS (not routes) and upload them into the unit, then convert them to ROUTES. Also, select the box that says "Display Tracks". Now you'll have a path to follow and your track route (shown in a black line) will be there for reference. The jacked up thing about this unit, and many other Garmins, is that if you are 1 mile past your START point, and you tell it to route you to the END point of your route, it will lead you to turn around for one mile. Not take the track you intended. Even though re-route is off, it still does. Keep your TRACK displayed to make sure you're on your intended route. PM me if you have questions and we can talk over the phone with the units in our hands.

BTW.. heading to Baja on the 14th for an overnighter in San Felipe. Open ride.

I got it new and it is registered to me and updated. Todd157k, I will take you up on your offer, I'm sure I'm just missing somethings on the setup. I have my phone set up as a back up but really want to use the GPS as intended. I'll send you a PM for contact info and give you a call this weekend. I would love to go the 14th but it's a day ride just to the border for me, so an over night trip is tuff to pull of. I have a million questions..... Thanks

So, the question is is there any map data to show in the area you made your route? You cannot have a "route" unless it follows roads. You should (maybe you did) instruct Express to also load the CNNA map set (now 2018.2 is current version) to your computer. When you open BaseCamp and look at the map with setting to most detail, it should look the same as on your 350 for displaying detail. Take a look at your 350's map setup. CNNA needs to be "enabled" and set your map detail to "most". I sold my 350 some time ago when I got a Nav V, but these should be easy settings to find. Press the 3 horizontal lines icon while viewing the map and go to Map Setup...

I will check that in my settings, I found that I had a problem last weekend and the unit would not zoom in enough to get the detail I needed. A reset and another update seems to have taken care of that problem. I will work on it some more and see what happens. Is it work while to add topo maps to the 350 for off road ridding?
