The unit itself is very cool, though the XM Radio feature is worthless to me. I'm an avid Ipod user.

I've told people for years that what GPSs really needed was the ability to receive weather info, so you could plan your routes even better. It's nice that Garmin got this together. I agree that for $99/month, few are going to be able to afford it on top of the presumably high unit cost. I wouldn't do it anyway.

The XM Weather service isn't $99/month. You can also use the cheapest Marine service that XM offers for $29.99/month - still expensive.

With enough people out there they might actually release something in the below $10 range only for NEXRAD. The current land stuff is mainly geared for Storm chasers who have way deeper pockets than us adventure riders.

Sweet, but at $2,695 the monthly service would be the least of my worries!

You're talking about the 396. The 376C has a street price of $805.

Waterproof, built in keyboard and mouse, color screen, 30 hour battery life (12v and AA power), Wifi and Bluetooth, expandable...CF slot for GPS, SD slot for memmory. Email, Nav, media player, etc. Solves any card limit/loading issues on the road. Seems like the ultimate touring accesory if it could be had for under about $1500. Sadly, they are $2k++
