With all the updates the 276cx has had (3.40) And for the one that still own it. Is I worth buying or looking for a diffrent options. I know there is not a lot of these sold at the price point of them (I'll be a 1000$ can and that come with the auto bundle with life time maps) I have read this thread 2 times now. I know there is cheaper phone option not sure if they work better in the USA. But in Canada I'm not going to trust my Samsung or iPhone for to much off road. Work great in the city for finding businesses and home.

Also what gps mount do the monster energy Honda rally bike run in the photos on page 24 ish.

So back to the 276Cx topic.
I've been waiting for a long time and deciding either to buy or no and finally I pulled the trigger (read pushed "Add to shopping cart button"), anyway for the first trips I will be riding together with my old trusted 60Csx unit as a dubbing/emergency GPS.
Considering the date/time my 276Cx was showing on display when I turned it on (17 January 2017) I guess it's from the first batch. I immediately updated the FW to latest available (ver3.40) and run through the whole settings process.
Syncing with iPhone and Garmin connect app went nice and smooth, and features like live tracking and weather radar looks cool either.
Display is just eye candy, can't stop staring on it...
The only thing that didn't work out well is connecting to SENA intercom in my helmet, no big deal - I wasn't planning to use it together anyway, just wanted to try all the functions.
Will be testing this unit later this month but here are unboxing pictures for beginning

Yup, interested to hear how you make out. Really on the fence about this thing, I really want it to work out.

So I started using the unit already and find out that the pre-loaded map is not routable (which is a bit odd considering routing works when this same map is chosen in Basecamp app when unit is connected to computer ). So that means I'm doing something wrong with settings on GPS unit or it's really not routable on the unit itself?
If it's really not routable, I immediately thought about loading the OSM maps and then I remembered Pepebayeta's story about voiding the warranty by non-Garmin maps - is it really true? 'cause I read through all the warranty conditions and googled that topic and couldn't find any word about it.
Another point, what about Custom maps then? They are non-Garmin also, they will automatically void the warranty then??

I used the routable OSM maps before I returned the 276CX as not fit for purpose, simply removed them before contacting Garmin.

Hope it works out for you

pepebayeta asked me to remove his (translated) email from Garmin that said third party maps would void his warrantee.

per his request, poof, I'm removing it. of course, I've emailed it to a dozen bot net remailers , that will flood the world with screenshots of it, should the Garmin hit man ever catch up with me in a dark alley. I'm joking, but I think he felt intimidated, which I am not.

anyway, ya, here comes the Streisand effect. :-)

(yes, I keep copies of everything. because some day, that Garmin hit man... lol)

The idea was not to make any change from the original text in the hope of a copy-paste to google translator for non spanish speakers.
    Thank you anyway.

    So how all end up?
Did you return the device? Or they replaced it?
Did they charge you for any labor?
    Or still in process?

It's been three weeks since I sent the last email and no reply yet.
I don't think I'll get one and I'm not sure it's worth to go further.

Garmin voiding warranties due to use of 3rd party maps just adds to the growing ill will folks have towards them. This is a bad move on their part

Especially since their automotive gps market is about to wind down due to smart phone use.

It's the dedicated users they're doing this to, not some fickle soccer mom.

Those of us that will drop this kind of coin for a unit are repeat offenders (yeah, that might be me with multiple units...), we're your past and your future. Piss us off continually, and we'll find a better way.

Garmin marketing department, you need to step up.

Garmin limited warranties vary by USA or International distribution due to consumer protection laws.

Nothing in US Limited warranty or EULA literature regarding voiding a USA Garmin warranty using non-Garmin maps.

Not saying such is the case, so any questions pertaining to warranty should be addressed to Garmin.

see the post above by pepebayeta, it looks like Garmin is responding to email that it is voiding warrantees for non OEM maps.

    1) see the number of people returning them in this thread. and the "buy it" recommendation being pulled.
    2) it's a GPS receiver, that works with GPS/glonass, the location in the world doesn't matter. I've used them off road for years, it's really not a big deal- turn it in and go ride, anywhere.
    3) you are probably confused because people have told you that a phone's gps won't work without cellular service. they were wrong.

the CX is fine, if you don't mind all the short comings listed in this thread.

    Ugh.

Before a couple hours ago, I didn't know this device existed. I happen to run across this thread and for the first few posts and pages, my jaw was dropping. Like many of you, this was exactly the GPS I was looking for. I've used about a dozen different GPS units, mostly Garmin. My last was a 478, and I really liked it.

Seeing this new model had me pretty excited.

Looks like they may have dropped the ball on this one. I'm late to the game, but I'll be watching this thread to see if anything good comes out. But I'm not holding my breath.

Same here. I first played with it, with no prior knowledge it existed, at Overland Expo, and was blown away. I couldn't believe that I was as excited about a GPS as I was when I got my original 276. I came here to check it out, and was really bummed by what I was reading.

I duck back in here every so often to see if some magic new update fixed everything, but I get let down. I don't understand it either. It's not like Garmin doesn't know how to build these things.
