If I buy the Euro maps on disc for a Garmin 550, can I install the maps on two or more Garmin units, if I own both units?

I want to buy a Nuvi 500, primarily for use on my bike in the US, but also for use for a three week trip to Germany. My German brother-in-law wants to buy a Nuvi 550, primarily for use on his bike in Germany, but also for use for a vacation in North America. Is there any way we can avoid BOTH having to buy BOTH the GPS and the extra set of maps? It is hard for me to drop an extra $150 for the Euro maps when I am only going to use it there for a relatively short time. (And no, we can't simply borrow each others GPS when we each visit, as our plans require us to both have the GPS at the same time.)

    Hi,
No, not legally, unless you rely on free maps.

Garmin's current license policy requires you to buy the unlock code for any given Garmin mapset tied to a specific Garmin GPS receiver unit. Any different GPS receiver for the same maps means different (more) money :lol3

You could use his while you're overseas, and he could use yours while in the USA. Just an idea.:D

Yeah, I wish that would work - problem is that both times we are both traveling by bike and/or car by different routes and different times to meet at a particular place and time. So we both need the euro maps at the same time, and we will both need the US maps at the same time.
