I know this has been going on in many parts of the forest for some time but I have to ask, where do we go to keep from being locked out of our favorite areas. Gates are popping up on what I would consider some major FS roads. I was even told by several FS fire personnel that a large percentage of the gates have been erected illegally by timber companies etc. I'm sure someone here has more experience with this than I do as to what could be done to put a stop to this. Please chime in if you do.

A ride yesterday to Bear Mountain lookout (Shasta)

On the way down I saw this sign

    Followed by this sign....hmm :huh

    Fairly contradictory.....

And a few of these on the way back, newly constructed from the last time I was up here over the summer.

Thanks in advance for any factual information & replies.

It was ok for the people to tear down the Berlin Wall, I'm sure the same applies here.

This looks extremely suspicious to me. I would actually contact the forestry service and find out the real deal.

Yes, same does apply here. That is, we already have a "Berlin Wall". It is the wall that restricts your economic freedom under the guise of environmentalism, public safety, cap and trade, etc. But that's a topic for the other forum down below. What is practical is that you have been awakened and motivated. Take action by looking into this, writing to your congressmen, and support organizations such as Stewards of the Sequoia.

by Seirra Pacific Lumber. Signs are almost identical in wording. Some kind of loophole is allowing this. Used to be signs posted on each side of the road indicated private property but the road was still open for public use due to being forest service roads. Public roads and legal easements. I don't know how or what to do to get around this, also don't have the resources. Wish I did, it's just WRONG! IMHO. From what I've read and understand it's even happening in Souther Calif on BLM land.?????????

I have a few calls in to some people I know who have looked deeper in to this and can perhaps give some direction. Whatever is going on is gaining momentum and they are popping up in many places in northern California. I did ask a few USFS employees about it and they wanted to know why I was traveling in those areas.

You get the government you vote for so.....keep voting for defacrats and repugnantcans. Looks like the country is heading in a grand direction! Outside of that, just take a mini-hack saw with you...bye bye signs. JB Weld on the moving parts of the gates works wonders as well.

Is it possible that leased federal land allows such restrictions on trails/roads/land previously open to public? Still unacceptable and actionable.

Im not sure what the total motive or profit is on keeping the public off public lands, but its happening everywhere.
All lumber company lands were,at one time deeded to the lumber companies free of charge, back when the country was being built the lumber barons were like the oil barons are now, bigger then life and got what they wanted.

So they own all this land,Sierra Pacific is owned by 1 guy, they are the biggest landowner in CA.

The land was deeded to them back in the day, most of it has changed hands from one lumber company to another a few times. BUT,when it was originally deeded to them a public use clause was grandfathered in and is supposed to be irrevocable. NOW their lawyers are telling them to close these lands at all costs, too much chance of a lawsuit, best to keep everyone out.

So what we need is a hero lawyer to step up and prove this "public use clause" exists and these closures are illegal.
I ride around the gates at will, they are trying to make it harder but they dont really enforce much of anything around here anyway. It will get worse.

Then there's the USFS and it's need to close public lands,if they had the $ to really go after people and get them out they would, they are broke so they're not pursuing it much.

If John Public doesnt draw a line in the sand and make some sort of stand he will find himself riding on private property only with his dirt bike in the future. The govt will have claimed the land from the people and do what it pleases with it,what their main aim is I dont know.

The Tahoe National forest plan to close all roads and trails got thrown out,a group of lawyers that steps in to protect civilians from big govt stepped in and proved the USFS plan was so flawed and so illegal that it was useless and it got tossed out. These lawyers worked for free, they just picked this case and nailed it.

So theres a precedent set, but,it takes money to hire lawyers, govt knows this and does what it pleases.

They are supposed to work for us,we pay their salary, why are they spending so much of our money to screw us over?

    Same Bitch different Century. Sorry.
Well how do you think those cowboys felt when they started seeing fences.
The lawyer didn't help them in the end.

The railroads were giving lots of land. every other section they crossed.
They traded lots of it for timberland. logging companies have it.
with people suing each other using lawyers, and everything revolving around the dollar, what do you expect.

why would they want you/us/me on their land,I know they don't care about the smile on my face.

A lot of good points have been brought up and yes we have to fight. But don't think that your grand kids will be doing what we are getting to do today.

When I was in my youth, any rancher or landowner that built a fence and didn't supply a gate would receive one. thing is they all did, and if we made one and closed it after we went through it was fine with everyone.
Half or at least one of you/us/me would leave that gate open today. No respect anymore, and before you argue with me remember I am on your side.

Fight your fight, but you better get out there and ride while you still can.

I am glad there are roads at all the way things are going.

The jb weld thing is really funny. But that is just so wrong. guess that is why it is so funny to me.

my opinion, every single American and illegal alien living inside the U.S. is relying on government support. we all drive on rodes we did not build. Go vote tomorrow!!
