Wimp. Just quit, be a man! :lol3 Seriously, book leave now for next year. You won't regret it. It is one of the few things that the word "awesome" truly applies to.

The Friday morning action may be a bit limited at the lake as many have packed up for the long trip home, and many have blown up too (sustained 200mph + does that to engines:eek1). But there should still be starters. Thursday try and get there as early as possible, you'll get to see more if you are early, and some better runs too. Bring a good camera, lip balm, sunscreen, and long sleeves and trousers. Otherwise you'll burn like you've never imagined from the reflected light off the salt surface. Apply sunscreen to the undersides of your nostrils, etc.
    See you there.

MB if i was still in Whyalla i would be there!!
I know 2 great tracks from Whyalla to Cowell but they are pretty overgrown, sandy & rough, not for big bikes or people not very experianced in deep sand.
There is a good station track that goes from Nonning-Mahanewo-Wirraminna, bitumen then Glendambo.
From Mt Ive through this track to Glendambo is 292km.
I've done this track on my 950 & the tracks not to sandy/diffecult.
I have the names & ph# of the stations on this track if anybody is interested.
Cheers & have a good ride.

don't forget the binoculars - there's nothing worse than having a hot rod go end to end on the far side of the run (where you can barely see it)

Be careful MB make sure he explains where the gates are. I think someone got up close and personal with a gate on one of Gilg's '(Mis) Adventure' treks once. :lol3

I've just had a look at your route with google maps, and can say I am very jealous. Looks like it is going to an excellent trip.

Any chance that this is going to become an annual event?, because I would be interested for next year.

Ouch Kipo, he's obvously heard the story.....too bad he (and everyone else in the world) didn't get to see the photo :evil .

MB, Bernie's contemplating this one. He's trying to co-ordinate work commitments and I'll communicate here on his behalf. As you know, he's a petrol head, and has always wanted to get up there.

It'll be an interesting conversation if he catches up with Godsilla. He went to school with Bernie and I about 40 years ago (man had just landed on the moon) ......small world. Bernie has 4 or 5 sisters and a lot of young males knew the family........

Fantastic news about Bernie coming, Trev :clap ....................... Can he bring interesting pictures of his sisters? :evil :lol3

After Godsilla & Charlies' suggestions & hopefully this ending up being a successful "dirt" road trip, of course! :evil , I'm putting it forward as a new "annual event" so more can book leave & come mid week. :lurk

I wasn't sure of really what or when to expect the best action on the lake, but as things are developing here & on the dlra site, I'm now also considering reducing time in the Gawler Ranges and pushing through to the lake as far as possible before sunset on Wednesday, thanks Godsilla for the "inside tip" :clap (unfortunately we can't leave Adelaide any earlier than Wednesday this year ourselves)

I'm getting excited :rilla as two more tentatively stuck their hands up at the SA Adv Riders drinks orgy last night including one with "cold beer" :dutch carrying equipment :wings

Thanks again for the tips GS, sounds exciting. :wings

I'm trying to get a handle on logistics, ie:

    (a) where should we head first on arrival ie to save wasting time & seeing more action
    (b) where is the best camping spot, ie (1) the dlra, I think lakeside camp or (2) at Mt Ive

any recommendations or any other info greatly appreciated? :ear
