Thanks for all the great reports and tracks. I am looking to visit the North Rim this next week. And wonder if you need a permit to Camp out at Point Sublime? Looking for some places to camp out near the rim with having to go through the permit process. I would be up for other locations than Point Sublime if any one has a good recommendations. Looks like i would be traveling from Jacob Lake. Will be with 2 other riders all on bigger BMW adv bikes. Thanks in advance.

Permit is needed at Pt Sublime. Lots of other good places that don't require one. Crazy Jugs and Saddle Mountain TH are 2.

I'll try to get a list of all the points and permit requirements together. I have all the info already. It will be awhile.

I'll be up there again over the next 10 days.

No. Even months in advance I was denied a permit for Pt Sublime next week.

I've circled the GC twice with Crawdaddy and Fakename respectively, and did it clock wise out of Las Vegas. Have been on many of these roads multiple times and encourage everyone to get out there and ride sometime.

Just remember, look out for bikes going the opposite direction, we've seen vehicles head on many times and usually stopped to chat with them.

Nice work on the tracks, remember meeting you in Death Valley at the Miners Cabin with my associates =)

Just a note, the Gas Icon at the Bar 10 Ranch is not a Gas Station. You can usually buy gas from them but I would call ahead, and it's not going to be cheap to buy, just as a note =)

I'll be at the Bar 10 Saturday!

Camping in the North Rim Campground isn't bad--was there is past June. Not a bad place to base out of for day rides.

I know very little about camping, but I think there are several possible places to camp in the Kaibob National Forest just outside the actual Grand Canyon NP. If you head over to one of the Kanab Creek overlooks, you would have a spectacular place to camp and not have to worry about a permit.

    Jumpup point for instance!

There are a few spots near crazy jugs where you could camp too.
When heading back out from the lookout signed as Crazy jugs, you go left (or straight, it will make sense when you're there) and within a mile there are a few nice spots where you can pitch a tent.

Just outside northrim NP, there are a few good spots just of the main road, go south on "west side road" (Leads to Fredonia) near Demotte campground, no viewpoint but a nice base for exploring the North Rim NP.

Just got back to PDX tonight from North Rim, Zion, Bryce, Page. Had permit for Toroweep had to cancel due to heavy rains/t-storms (09/21&22). Camped at North Rim (09/26&27); nice campground and great showers -- was cold and rainy. Tried for day trip to Point Sublime on 27th - two up on 1200 GS and decided to turn around about 12 miles out. Uphill portions were very rutted and pot-holed, met fire crew at the 12 mile mark and they confirmed roads were even worse the rest of the way out. Pillion was ready to catch a ride out with the fire crew in their Quad after a couple of these :muutt :dirtdog. Good luck on your trip!

I have finally managed a run of the complete GCBAR in a single trip along with @larryboy! I'll eventually make a few tweaks/updates to the tracks, but in the meantime, enjoy the RRs.

A friend and I are really wanting to do this ride in 2 weeks but wondering if it is worthwhile in mid november. You mention the north rim areas are closed and I'm kind of confused as in no entry allowed?

Large portions of this route will be accessible until the snow flies, but the National Park on the North Rim does close around November 15th. Highway closed. No Services. No open gates.

Sorry for sounding like an idiot but I'm having trouble seeing the boundary of the National park and understanding what the highway and park closure means. As in the entire boundary of the park is closed with no trespassing?

I am leaving from CO Springs Friday and I was hoping to do White Rim and some back roads into Arches before heading to the N Rim and Tuoweep. Found you RR and tracks and will add some more to the N Rim thanks to you and the weather that may shut the Moab portion out Great RR and info.

Highway 67 is closed during the winter no matter what the weather and road conditions are like. Nearby businesses also are seasonal. Definitely the North Rim gates will be down, and no one gets into the park.

Weather permitting, you should be able to reach all of the points outside the park like Buck Farm, Saddle Mountain, and everything west of Point Sublime, like Stina through Crazy Jug, Sowats, Jumpup and Gunsight. The entire 374 miles between Fredonia and Mesquite would also be open. The North Rim Park closure only affects Pt Sublime and the paved stuff to the North Rim Lodge and Cape Royal.

Do you know if they close the west dirt road entrance to the park too, the one that also goes to Pt. Sublime?
