Inspired by my 2013 TAT crossing and Colemanfu's 2016 CO Bike & Brew Tour 16, I gotta check out the Ouray/Silverton/Telluride area again. Beefcake Morris & I already have rooms booked in Ouray for a Sept 9 - Sept 17 adventure. We are hoping to get bunch of you to join us for what will be an awesome trip.

It's open to DS & ADV riders of all levels, with plenty of activities for their families and friends. The goal is to have spectacular rides during the day, and then talk smack over brew's & food in the evening. I have a ton of GPX tracks to share (some proven & some suspect), and I'm sure others do too.

Non-riders will have a great time also, whether they are shopping in Telluride, hiking 14er's, or taking the narrow gauge train from Silverton to Durango. Do some research of the area and you and your family will get stoked!

American Airlines has flights from JAX to Durango (DRO), with a single stop in Dallas. It's a spectacular 2 hour drive from Durango to Ouray. United also has flights from Denver to Durango. It's a long 5-6 hour drive from Denver to Ouray. Fly to Ouray, and you likely get in another day of riding. I'll take up to 6 bikes with the ADV Ministry bus, or up to 4 with my truck/trailer.

This premium dirt bag is glad to have been an inspiration and the exact reason I've shared my Colorado experience here :beer

CO is real bucket list stuff for any ADV rider, ya throw in the multitude of breweries, great little mountain towns, free camping and legal weed and it's like you've died and went to dirt bike heaven!

You also picked a fantastic bang for your buck base camp.
Ouray/Tohellyouride/Silverton all have their own unique flavor and are in the thick of the Rocky Mountains.

High above Silverton is 13,450' Kendall Peak.

As well as home to the Alpine Loop and some of the best high elevation back country riding in the world!

    6-7 passes in one day!

Please feel free to use Manfu as a resource as you plan your ADV. Remember - fail to prepare, prepare to fail!

I just set June 14 as the launch date for this years Dirt Bike and Brew Tour! Starting with a visit to Estes Park and a few days hiking and acclimating in Rocky Mountain National Park.

    Manfu,
Please follow this thread and feel free to share your insight to the Ouray/Silverton/Telluride/Lake City riding area anytime. My goal is to get a bunch of people to see and enjoy this area, and your perspective is appreciated.

Manfu's a camper but back in 2013 at end of my first trip out west, I treated myself to a room (per suggestion of a fellow Brecktreck rider).

So, I'd like to suggest Box Canyon Lodge and Hot Springs as potential lodging for your excursion. https://www.boxcanyonouray.com/
    For 2 reasons:
    1. It's walking distance to Ouray Brewery :evil
    2. It's got private tubs with a stller view!

View from the top and hottest tub.

Now there are other places to soak off the miles like the public pool in Ouray - which I was told is being refurbished and my personal favorite the Orvis HS http://www.orvishotsprings.com/ for the natural setting and potential talent (clothing optional). Don't get too excited we've had polar experiences in our 2 visits. One was a group of college girls :knary the other was the geezer with a broken leg who refused to get his cast wet. What was seen could not be unseen and don't even try to imagine his soaking position :yikes.

It's great to see the early "In" replies, both posted here and told to me. It's shaping up nicely. If wanting bike transport, please remember to PM DavyHauls. 15 is the magic # for easy bike transportation. Also, I notice that even though this trip was intentionally planned for after Labor Day, rooms in Ouray and Silverton are booking up really fast.

Of the many riding highlights around this area, Black Bear Pass is a must do. Can't wait to do it again. My first time was spooky and surreal ...

Here's some footage of 550 from Ouray to the turnoff for Black Bear, heck even that's a little scary : )

    Milkweed,
We are renting a house in Ouray that same week. I have a small group from here in Virginia and I'm asking a bunch of guys we ride with in Pa. and Deleware. I'll let them know what you have going with the hauler. (some people are balking at the drive) Where will they pick up the bikes? Hopefully we can all get together for a ride and some dinner.

    DZ,
Assuming we get the required 15 or more bikes, DavyHauls will pick up bikes in Jacksonville, FL and possibly one or two other places between his place in SW FL & Jax. Please PM DavyHauls directly with any additional questions specific to him hauling bikes. If we don't get enough bikes for Davy, I'll drive out myself from Jax with my 2 bikes, plus a max of 5 or 6 friends bikes.
Will be great to meet & ride with you guys if you can make the logistics work.
