Its coming towards the end of Winter here in Australia, and the riding is JUST perfect. Well, the riding's been perfect all Winter in my opinion!! :thumb

Anyway, it was forecast to be a bright sunny weekend, and I was due to meet up with some friend's in Yallingup, about 250km SW of Perth. Instead of jumping in the cage, I decided to make an adventure of it, and set off on the bike, with the plan to cover as much dirt as possible to get there.

My mate's son Jamie was in tow, complete with learner's permit, KLX250 and his newly acquired Giant Loop saddle bag. We managed to cover 400km there and 400km back, picking out as much dirt as possible.

We hit the dirt at Pickering Brook, in the Perth Hills, not far from home. As usual for this area, the first 10km's or so were quite chilly, as the track is behind the hill, hidden from the sun!!

After a few fire trails we made out way along the powerline track which goes all the way to Collie. There were some great views.....

And ripper hills which had Jamie on his toes.....

We stopped every now and then for some tuition.....

Time for a breather and a snack, and lose an inner liner also.....

As usual, steeper than it looks here.....

Jamie crests a nice long climb, with great views of the surrounds....

Its straight from a distance, but twists and turns a lot of the way.....

A friendly reptile cousin sunning himself in the middle of the track.....

We had to divert a few times into the surrounding forests to avoid private property. This bridge takes us over the Hotham River....

A photo looking down the overland conveyor, which carries bauxite from the Saddleback mine all the way down to the Worsley Alumina Refinery.....

We stopped at Collie for some fuel and a sandwich, and got the maps out. I generally planned to use maps and GPS to head down through the forests to Kirup, and then across the Vasse Hwy, across Sue's Rd, and then up to Yallingup......

Beautiful countryside through here. Jamie enjoying the not so demanding riding (for now)............

My grand plan of "just cutting across" to Kirup endud up with an hour and a half of circling private properties and pine forests around Grimwade. Brilliant tracks and hill climbs however, definitely an area to come back to and play/explore.....

Jamie in a pickle on the side of a greasy mother of a hill. :evil To his credit, he gave it a crack, and I must say I just got the 640 up here. It took me three goes to ride the little KLX up!!

After an hour and a half of circling and getting no where, and a few spills from Jamie, we decided to head out of the forest the way we'd come in, and make a B-line for Yallingup on the tar. I enjoy arriving at camp with a bit of light to spare usually.

Doesn't that belong ON the bike Jamie? :lol3

We spent a nice night with friends, and took off the next morning, just staying ahead of some storms that were blowing up from the South.

We did another slab run for a 100km or so in order to keep ahead of the storms brewing behind us, and hit the dirt again at Brunswick Junction.....

Great riding through this area, and another spot worthy of coming back for a weekend of playing and exploring.....

From here we stuck on the dirt all the way to Dwellingup.....

And that appears to be the end of the photos!! I must have been hanging out for that pub lunch at Dwellingup!! :dg Purely by coincidence we met Bully, Smelly and some other Perth guys here at the pub -- they were out on a day ride.

Another great weekend out on the bike. Would more could I want hey?!?

    See ya out there :ricky
    Cheers,
    Dan

Nice route by the sounds of it! That first steep hill climb on the power line track is a bit of fun eh? Glad to see you found the bridge over the river.... Not sure I'd know which way to go as we just stumbled across it last time.

Thanks all for the feedback!! :clap

Mark, yes it had been a while. Had the motor out for a couple of months doing a top end freshen up, and a couple of other things while I was at it. I can say though, I much prefer to ride than sit in the shed on weekends!! :lol3
