Since Ive gotten in to dual sports my xr 250r is sitting. I was thinking of making it street leagal. The engine is new top and bottom end has the 280 kit with stage 1 cam. Ive have the time and know how to do it but how difficult is the law on it I don't know? The other down side is that it has no title pre 1998 offroad vehicals in wv was a option (or so I'm told)?
another resin for building it, dual sport bikes in my area almost never come up for sale and ones that do are way overpriced. Opinions??

Do your homework with your local DMV before putting any money in the bike. It's getting harder in most states and some that have allowed dirt bikes to be licensed for the street in the past are having 2nd thoughts and not renewing the street registration when the tabs are due again.

Pretty sure it would be easy to do. You would probably have to go with a battery and regulator/rectifier setup so your lights and all work with out the engine running.

    Call the DMV and hope........

I agree with the 'check your state's DMV first' and the mod of the stator and add a battery.
Many years ago I street legalized a XR350R in California, and the law required that the headlights worked without the engine running.

Shouldn't be a problem unless you live in CA.

    ez todo in the wv
i have two drz250 tagged here thinking of tagging my 79 pe175
let me know how i can help
or you could buy one of drz250s

either way i will be happy to point you in the right direction and get the right paper work

then you can ride down to charleston for a dualsport ride

getting a title is harder than getting a tag in the wv

    but it can be done

Don't know how difficult it is to register a title-less bike in WV, but in PA it's pretty difficult.

I'd be tempted to add the street legal goodies to the XR, then look for a beat or dead XL250 (with title), get the XL registered and ... well... figure options out from there.

Not sayin that's what I'd do or something you should do. Just sayin I'd maybe be tempted.

And I guess there's always this place...

There are a lot of states where making a dirt bike 'street legal' is almost impossible. Find some people from your locale and ask around - do some research before you spend the money.

I just finished registering and getting my KDX200 inspected here in MA. I am sure that it can be done in WV, but you should ask around, just to be sure.
The title (in my name) for my KDX just arrived in the mail yesterday, and my wife does not understand my excitement.
The dual sported KDX is perfect for the tight new england trails that I ride. Your XR is also a perfect candidate! Do it!
