Comparing these two bikes (not the girls): The lower appears to be is a customized (i.e. stripped down) version of the upper (at least the frame). From some reading, it seems these front drum brakes didn't work much and removing the internals, cable, and lever cleaned up the bike and probably lowered the weight a bit. It seems between 1958-1972 a better (but still not very good) front drum brake was used. I will admit I like the looks of the customized version (with a shovel head engine) a bit more than the stock panhead (maybe the rider makes a difference?) - but it's not night and day.
