Wish I had an XR........
The last two or three HD dealers I've been in had nice used ones for sale for decent prices. They're out there if you really want one.
The XR is so much fun! Everybody hates you. Harley guys, sportbike guys, citizens. It's awesome.
The Harley shop in Waynesville North Carolina had 3 used ones in stock.
2 2009 Orange XR 1200. This is the one in the showroom. The other had just been take'n in on trade;
This is the White 2011XR 1200 X sitting in the showroom floor;
They do not have the re-sale value of the other sportster models.......... yet. I bought mine in April 2011 after it sat in the Heart of Dixie H-D showroom for over a year along with a silver 2010 and a orange 2009. List was $11,989.00, I got it AND the up-graded X suspension (adjustable BPF forks and fully adjustable rear shocks from the 2011 X model) for $ 9800.00, tax and every thing, out the door. Had less than 10 miles on it. Cash..
The salesman said the owner of the dealership had told them to get rid of them. 1 week later the other 2 were gone.
If I were looking to buy a sportster and wanted to make it a better handling machine, I would find me a XR or XRX on the used market. Then the only thing you would have to buy then would be a Corben seat. The stock one is horrible and the Sargent aftermarket one is not much better.
A GOOD aftermarket pipe, a GOOD tuner with a GOOD tune, and a K+N filter is all you need for the motor.
Funny! I bought a left over new 11. Rode it for a bit in the cold ass Chicago spring. Promptly had a 1 mph tip over in a parking lot and completely tore a ligament in my left hand. Six weeks later after surgery I am back on the road. Bike is great fun!
I should have held out for a X. But when you "accidentally" buy one on eBay (hmmm. I wonder what the reserve on that is?) , you kinda get what you clicked.
Wow. I'm on the central coast of Ca. You see very few around here. I've probably seen 3 total. Hard to figure, with our coastal canyon roads waiting for a bike like that.
As much as I dig them, couldn't deal with the rearsets on the XR's. I've replaced one knee, and the other's this winter. It drove me to sell my BMW RSL 1100 and Duc Monster. Just can't make the bend. Found the midsets on my XL pretty good. Not as sporting, but hey, better on me then a racked out cruiser type stance. To quote Clint, "sometimes a man's gotta know his limitations".....
The west coast members of XROG are holding their meet this weekend in Central Cali on Monday.
Slowoldguy, call your local H-D dealer about the X suspension kit. They might be able to still get it. Or call Racetec about a fork up-grade and shocks.
I already have the X shocks. Mine came from Guam over on the XR board.
One more at my favorite ride to eat spot. Loco Coyote.
Only limited by imagination.
I like the way you think!
I once rode my BMW to a primarily Harley poker run - and I owned a big twin at the time.
I currently own a BMW, a Yamaha, a Ducati, a Honda, a KTM, a Buell, AND a Harley. Had other makes at other times too. I just don't get the hate toward another person that is also a motorcyclist. The thing that gets me is that I'm the same person whether I'm on my BMW, my Duc, or my HD. But, the same guy that waves at me, and be all chummy when I'm on the HD, will give me the finger when I'm on the Duc. :huh Why the animosity toward someone you don't even know? The world is made up of mostly assholes, I believe.
Ain't it grand? Oooohhhh . Show up on your rattle canned KLR to a rally frequented by the big Euro trailie types. Then just rail around like you have a rocket tied to your ass and they are tied to a stump. They love that shit.
Oh yeah,they may be the worst offenders, but it definitely isn't a MOCO exclusive. I guess there's just a lot of immature people that still feel some need to "belong"... I would have thought that most would have outgrown that cliquish behavior around the time they left junior high, or certainly by the time they graduated HS. Some underlying insecurity perhaps...?
They had a bike judging competition after the run and I took first, second and third place in the European category
Yep, you see that kind of behavior no matter the type or brand. Some folks have nothing but their ego.
As a friend long told me a long time ago, "in a world full of sheep, you're a goat". One of the best compliments ever.
so, im guessing your an old goat now?
See what I did there?
I know, I know. I am waiting for paint to dry. I am bored.
Hell. I'll own it. slowoldgoat.
