Hi, like I mentioned, I'll be in SA next week for a 16 day moto tour from Johannesburg to Cape Town....

I need advise in terms of clothing and riding equipment. Is it cold or warm? should I bring a mesh suit or something with more wind protection? What are the chances of rain in this time of year?

Any other advise will me appreciated.

    Tnx!

You are going to love it this time of year, all through the country. Its the middle of summer here. Temperatures anywhere between 20Deg C through to upper 30's Deg C. Inland is generally hotter than the coast, except in the sub-tropical area where the humidity makes it feel much hotter.

From Johannesburg down to the coast on the east (Durban) its the summer rainy season, but unless you are unlucky (i.e. long rain that sets in for a few days), you should only get afternoon thundershowers. Be carerful in the Gauteng/Joburg region, sometime you can get hail storms that bombard you with quite serious sized hailstones too!

Storms typically start around 15:00 and end 17:00 after which it clears and drys up quickly. Everything south of that it thins out in terms of rain, but you may still get the odd rain cloud/thunderstorm.

I'd try and avoid the Durban area as they usually have the most rain this time of year, but its still warm and pleasant, just less rain everywhere else!:1drink

If you are going along the coast (which I would seriously recommend) then you will have awesome blue sky weather from at least East London / Port Elizabeth to Cape Town.

So my advice - no leathers, just cool protective gear and a rain suit. Enjoy - I envy you - 16 days in one of the best times of the year. Going to be brilliant. If you need help with routes give us a shout, unless you already have that covered.
