Gold Belt Tour March 3, 2011

I've seen a few of these; here's another. Just checkin out the back country - not nearly as exciting as a certain Mr. SteveG's rides.

Park bike hauler at Red Canyon Park north of Canon City. Ride Gold Belt Tour (Shelf Rd and Phantom Canyon Rd) to Cripple Creek, Victor, Canon City, and return; 67 miles - 2.5 hours wheel time + 2.5 hours rubber-necking and picture taking.

A few snow-packed/icy spots going up and half a dozen more coming down. No traffic to speak of. Chilly between Cripple Creek and Victor (9700') but otherwise a beautiful day.

    Pictures with no further comments.

Nice pix. I have done that several times. It's a great ride. there are some interesting places to explore between Canon City and Shelf Rd as well. They call it 4 mile. There is a nice camp spot where someone "Quaried" limestone. Makes for a neat shelter.

I didn't think that ride would be open this early in the year. The Cañon City end of the roads, sure, but not the Cripple Creek ends. Must have been nice weather for there to be no snow. Thanks for sharing. :thumb

All the years I lived in Woodland Park/Colorado Springs I never did take shelf road. Phantom Canyon was one of my favorite drives though. Thanks for the pictures, I need to correct my errors (not traveling shelf road) :)
