When I'm out riding I love to stop and eat at small local places rather than eating at chains - heck, sometimes I ride just so I can eat at some of these places. Its not a secret but Tuggle's Gap (right off the BRP) near Stuart Va. has great BLTs and cheeseburgers although you might not stop there unless you knew about the place. One of the best breakfasts I've had is at the Mountain House on 113 near Station's Inn (where 18 crosses the BRP)(one pancake covers the whole plate and is thick and fluffy to boot - one is enough!) and Amy is so sweet we almost kidnapped her. SO - have any cool little secret places that are your favorite eats?

The Country Cottage on Hwy 69 outside Hayesville, NC. The BEST deserts around. Get the Caramel Apple Walnut pie, warmed, with a large serving of vanilla bean ice cream. It'll make you go slap Grandma :thumb

Across the road is the Rib Shack. A local chain with some of the best ribs around.

I appreciate all the response - serious - just like you can do the "Scotch Trail" in Scotland or a castle tour in Germany - I'm going to do a "eat and get fat" tour with the info from this post - thanks!

Mountainman did a report that included Fat Boys' Pork Palace, plus getting there requires riding 33 over Shenandoah Mt. Fat Boys is in Brandywine, WV. :ricky

Here is another one, Cuz's Restaurant on 460 near Tazwell, VA. THE BEST steak I have ever had in my life. I have not been there in a few years, but I am gonna go back and double check. It is raised organically on the farm the restaurant is on and served up HUGE and deliscious.

Nothing spectacular, just a nice hole-in-the-wall place to eat on the NC/TN border.
This is off of the Wolf Laurel exit on I-26 between Johnson City, TN and Asheville, NC.

If I go through Front Royal, VA, I often hit:

Not sure if I would call the food great, but it's filling, cheap, and sometimes full of interesting locals. Try the "better than sex" cake if they have it available.

It was actually written up in a Cycle World or something years ago for being a motorcycle hangout. I never see many bikes there anymore though, at least when I've been.

Still is. I think it has been for a long time. Still open though, was there just a few months ago.

I hadn't been through that area in over five years. I made it a special point to go run down some of the roads I grew up riding on. Brought back a lot of memories.

Just thought I'd let you know they are still open. Last time I was down there it looked deserted.

there's this little place in Durbin WV that's real good. I forget the name. it's the last restaurant on the right as you head N on 250.

the place at Seneca Rocks, WV above the gas station is ok.

the Cafe coming into Bartow, WV from the east on 28/250 has a good breakfast.

Griffin Tavern, in Flint Hill, VA. :thumb It might be considered a little "upscale" for mud-splattered bikers but we didn't get too many ugly looks . . .

Anybody know of any good places to eat out towards the Lexington / Buena Vista (VA) area? I often find myself down there and have yet to find a good 'diner'- type restaurant (that remains open for more than a year, that is :D ). I've been hitting the Aunt Sarah's on Highway 11 lately, but there's got to be more offerings than that.
