Hi everyone - I'm new to the board - just got an R1150Rt and love it!

I'm a programmer/hacker type. I use google earth to plan rides. I set Placemarks at points along the route and name them like this:
    001 L 234
    002 C
    003 R MlrFry

    These interpret to
first point, turn left onto hwy 234
second point Continue on this route
third point turn Right onto Millers Ferry rd.
. . . . and so on, just a personal shorthand BUT the sequential numbering is CRITICAL - (incidentally, if you need to insert points in as existing list, then 0021 would follow 002 and precede 003)

After I complete the route, I
    1. save it as a .kml file. (make sure you highlight the Folder NOT just one point, or your kml file will contain just the point you had highlighted when you Saved.)
    2. open Mapsource V 6.9.1
    3. open a program I wrote called Waypoints.exe
    4. Select the .kml file in Waypoints (there's a 'View' option so you can look at the kml and make sure you saved more than one point)
    5. Click the 'create route' option in Waypoints
    6. Click the 'Process' button on Waypoints

This results in the placemark info being loaded into Mapsource and a route created. I download that to my 76C and am off. I did this because the rural road coverage of the Garmin is not that good and I like to get off the beaten path without hitting the dead ends. I've used it on three day 600+ mile rides and afternoon getaways . . . I've found lots of routes to 'get out of town'.

Anyone who wants to try this out can download the program from
    www.edda.ws/public/waypoints.zip

    Enjoy

R1150RouTer: Many thanks.. Just a couple of things... I've been looking for something like this for some time, so my hat is off to you...
Yet, could you add an export type in your program to *.gpx...

Also, post this on http://www.gpsxchange.com/ I believe there would be great interest in it there...

    Again, thank you ...:clap

LATEST VERSION: I'll fix the code to work on the latest version - I'll post an update to this thread when it's done . . . probably tommorrow early

EXPORT TO GPX: Mapsource does that . . . after I use mapsource to load the GPS, I sometimes save the file to gpx. Google Earth and Mapsource both open those.

Just updated my Mapquest program and it works fine . . . The program is a SIMPLE approach. It basically:
    - parses the GE .kml file to extract names and coordinates
    - sends the keystrokes to Mapquest to enter the Waypoints
    - tells Mapsource to create a Route based on the Waypoint names

    1. Create the .kml file in Google Earth
    2. Open Mapquest (It has to be open and on a NEW, blank map)
    3. Open Waypoints, select the kml and click process

    It works . . .

I just your latest method, and all I get is a second textpad window of the same file.

Am I doing something wrong? I just updated Mapsource to 6.10.2 too. Wait, Mapsource or Mapquest?

This isn't working for me with MapSource 6.11.6 on Win XP.
Is there a better way to get .KML or .KMZ data into MapSource these days?

Or is it because I have the new version of MapSource?

I have just experienced this KMLtoGPX converter. This shark is sharp but please HELP me understand one thing:I sent the converted gpx file to the unit, using mapsource.I looked at the screen and saw hundreds of waypoints with names on it but the route was almost impossible to see:(
Any ways of erasing those tagged names of the waypoints?

This threads about a year old, since the last post. What are some good updates.

Check out this beta from National Geographic

    not associated btw

New 2 me - 1 month old used Legend Cx in need of a firmware update.
Still trying to make sure I dont loose my city nav v7 on it.

Saw the google earth link in mapsource and decided to look for some outside info.
Have a few downloaded maps on mapsource I want to put on as well.
Mapsource says citynav v8 is unlocked, not sure how to use it or any of the maps for that matter. It works great imo. Coming from a c320, this is a big improvement.
