Watching the bikes tackle the Dakar sands got the ol' feet feeling a bit itchy to get out there and test the imagination.

So the old boys with their Honda Dominator & TDM Adventurer went to see what it's really like............... local style!

Destination: Goolwa Beach to the Murray Mouth some 14kms along the beach.......here we come!

With a little fear and in trepidation creeping into our bones as we looked down the sloping ramp onto the beach, deflated the tyres, crossed our hearts, looked at each other and took the plunge.

The old TDM bucked and weaved here, there and finally launched itself safely onto the smooth beach with as much rooster tail I could muster from the warn out 9k old TKC 80's.

Looking around for what seemed like an extended period.........no Dominator following?

Finally he too launched onto the beach with a thunderous burst of power, all be it with a fair amount of sand over most of the bike and rider.

    Nothing was said though?

The tide was out and the sand firm and the first 13 kms were a delight with the sea breeze in your face.

Then the beach started to narrow, the sand softer, the ruts bigger, the fear growing.......................then splatt...........a front wheel washout on the TDM.

Lucky I had the camera............................................no real evidence.
("I just stopped to wait for the Dominator to catch up, being the supportive rider that I am")

Surprising we made it thus far in this stuff.

So close, I believe the Murray Mouth was only over the next rise

Here comes the start of the famous "Dominator Soft Sand Shuffle"

Even closer look but it did take some time to get this close

Roaring past at a whopping 3kph, give it more stick, Charlie

It became impossible with the near bald tyres on both bikes and we turned back......defeated and with only an hours digging.

"Honey, cancel my booking for next years Dakar...............I'm stuffed!"

    Hey Charlie wait for me!

Are we far enough away from the sand yet, I can still see it in the distance?

Hang on, just checking the map I think if we go this way we can get even further.

Next time I get itchy feet I will just use the foot powder like everyone else!

    Cheers

:roflnice quick, humorous post. Thanks for sharing, and stirring the "buy-a-Yamaha-TDM-idea" once again.
