Is that an 8" or the 9" version? Either way, the ones without the 'sawteeth' are much less common.

I have always (because I am old and that's how we always did it) resorted to abrasives and polishing but seeing that this is mostly confined to the blade, I wonder about how the electrolysis method might work (thinking that the handle could be kept 'high and dry' with the right set up). It might still need polishing afterward but you'd know what shape the steel was in before removing any of it.

Anyone ever try it on a knife?

Guess I should try it myself, I have a couple of 'tiger' knives that are really rusted. They are cheap, $25 fishing knives with very agressive serations, really useful to cut line out of a prop or slice not quite thawed bait but rust.... Friends kept mentioning the rusty one in my (boat console) knife rack so I got a new one and sprayed it with reel protectant before it saw the boat, a week later it was orange and it had not even come out of the rack!

I think the response is going to be much better than you imagined.
There are a lot of folks here who truly admire your work, and for good reason. :thumb

When you finish your production run, I might have another small project for you if you're interested.
Heck you might even want to run with it, we'll see...

Thanks for putting this out here for us.

Great thread! My first knife, and the knife I still use nearly everyday, is an old drop-point Gerber Gator :D:

It's been with me for many years now and has been a great all purpose knife that's never let me down... I love the grip shape, it's size and the grip material. Very easy to hold onto, even when your hand is covered in fish slime... :rofl

The knife below is very special to me and has a definite story to tell:

It's a Marine Raider stiletto and belonged to my Granddad's best friend, who was a 4th Raider. He gave it to my Granddad when they both came home from the Pacific...

That's technically a "clip point". I own the non-serrated version, bought back in 1995. Still use it.

That's a Fairbairn-Sykes dagger. I'd need to do a little research to properly type it, but that is certainly a nice piece of history! Thanks for sharing.

Yep, Fairbarin Sykes (SP?) Anyway, if it is an original real one, it is worth some serious coin on the collector market but it sounds like you'd never sell it.

    Smithy,

Thanks for the correction on clip-point vs. drop-point, I appreciate it.

Also, thanks Smithy and Sniper-X for the Fairbairn-Sykes dagger identification.

If you look closely, you can see a little wave at the end of the blade... That's where my dad jabbed it into a tree when he was a little kid, in 1956... :D

I'm moving exactly one block south of my current location. Still just within Little Beirut proper. :clap

Idk anything about knives. Have an old timer and tree knife from one grandfather i keep in the car/truck thats its.

    The other left me these.
Two Puma, a colt, a couple of bucks, random pocket knives. All probably needing cleaning. Green stuff on the brass, rust etc.
