A little group of soggy souls rode up the hill from Corona to the Main Divide Road (now known as the "Mud Divide Road") to Ortega Highway today. To sum up the ride in one photo:

    It was a quagmire. Mud, rain, fog, mud, wind and mud. Pretty much in that order. Here's what my bike looked like when I left Long Beach at 0730;

    And here's what it looked like when I got back;

Four of us met up at 'The Grind' coffee shop in Corona. We sat inside and talked for a few minutes thinking the rain might let up. It didn't. Ever. So eventually we suited up and launched.

TwoWheelsGood was there on his brand new Husky 450, but he was parked around the corner. Eventually a fourth guy on a green KLR met up with us on the trail, but I never figured out who it was. He splashed water on me going through a puddle and sprayed us with mud whenever we took off from a stop. Funny guy...:ken

    Frank on his Beemer.

This was the view we had pretty much all day: fog

    When it rains it pours.

    Carl on his red KLR.

Most of the road was like this. Slick, sloppy and zero traction. I think I washed out my front end about 50 times, although to my knowledge nobody actually went down.

TWG dumped about four gallons of water out of his boots. He did not appear to be having a good time.

This was one of those trips that was fun *in retrospect*.

We eventually made it back to the pavement and Ortega Highway.

There was no discussion at all about going back via that road. Those four went east back to Corona, I went west on Ortega to the 5 freeway and back home to Long Beach. I stopped here for lunch - it was pretty good.

I had a glorious ride home on Ortega. The sun was out, it was warm. I have no idea why these kids were over on that rock, but they were. So I took a picture.

Like I said, I'm glad I went. But if I had the opportunity to do it again tomorrow...?

    ...I'd pass.

Looks a little soupy for CA. But then the high today here was 27, which is 20 degrees warmer than yesterday.

A day of that is better than any day working the case.

I haven't been up there in a lot of years.

    Thanks for posting.

It was raining and my camera got wet... So did I.

We all were a bit soggy by the end of the ride, but the sun came out on the ride home.

Super day, super ride, super company.
    I had a hoot.

    Thanks

    Just a few more picts.

Fmfpunk's new Dunlop D606 Zero Clearance Soil Sampler.

Seems to work pretty good judging by the quality high clay content specimens that made it back to the lab.

Sorry we missed you guys, but glad we missed the rain. I've had enough of these to last me awhile: "This was one of those trips that was fun *in retrospect*." :D

Love that LC4 Rick, and we ran across a guy on a new Husky just like 2Wheels, looks like a fun scoot...though, maybe not today. Until next time. :beer

PS. Stu, I thought you were getting your hair frosted and wouldn't make it. :lol3

All the gates we passed were open, which was surprising since the Forest Service usually closes them at the first hint of rain. It'll be a while before it dries out, though.
