i don't know if this is the correct spot for this or not. But my question is:

I have an iPhone and an android. Neither one of them will load gps quickly enough tonuse as a gps. It doesn't matter where I am. The screen just goes blank and you can tell it's trying to load but it will never load due to my continuous movement. Ive used locus, google maps, pocket earth, motion x, and others. It's like there's no connection but it's my understanding that you don't need a connection for gps.

Never seen such a thing. What Android phone? What does the screen going blank have to do with the GPS? What app makes the screen go blank?

Would you consider yourself a tech-savvy person or a tech-challenged person? Because my first thoughts would be (1) which OS are you using? many of the SatNav apps won't run on some of the older OS; (2) where did you install the apps--to your phone or to your SD card? I can only guess that some SatNav apps might run more slowly on certain older phones if installed to the card; (3) did you, in fact, download the maps you need for each of the apps you tried, and where did you install them? if installed to your card, how fast and how large is your SD card? I wouldn't use anything slower than a Class 10; (4) have you installed all the updates? (5) did you pay for the app, or are you using some sort of free trial version?

Also, you should edit post #1 to say which iPhone and which Android phone you have.

The issue might be that you don't have the downloaded map viewing in the Main Map.

I use Gaia on all apple products - iphone 4 and 7 and ipad mini
    I download a map
It won't show on the main map and buffers.....
I go to the folder of the downloaded map and chose to show it in the main map
    Boom! Works.

Very odd. I have what is now an older Samsung Galaxie Note 3, and it works like a dang charm. And that is having used it in several different programs-- all upbeat experiences.
How many app's do you have running at the same time? (do you know how to close everything that your not using?)

Are you running from a data plan for the phone-- or slurping wi-fi from yet another device?

Who's the data provider (Verizon, etc.)?

Have you actually got location services turned on for the phones and the apps you are using?
